Re: Its been almost 4 years
yeah, I've tried to post randomly to keep things from stagnating too much, and we do get a tiny trickle of new members in, but I think the majority of the old timers that are left, have moved on in their project lives and not many of us still have our VRs, and those that do, don't have time/money to do anything with them.. :/
good to see y again though! hope everything is going well for ya!

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Any number of things may have caused folks to fall away. Health, finances, demands of work or family. Even the availability of base cars to build with. There are far fewer VWs out there and prices are substantially higher than just a few years ago. I was thinking that this current situation would draw back some folks who had extra time on their hands, but haven't seen much. Still, I hope that those just taking a break will dive back in here so we can see what they are up to.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Facebook and instagram hurt a lot of forums. No shortage of VR’s. They just don’t always post here.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Taking a break from your Volksrod. Interesting thought. Maybe I’ll do that after, um, well yesterday the clutch linkage needed some tinkering to get the free play right. A quick run down the road told me that all is well again. Now the steering box needs adjusting. Probably tomorrow for that. Waiting in the wings is the new wiring harness, which has been waiting in its box for a bit. Today the Wankel Suzuki is going back together for a potential buyer who’s coming by this evening. Oh, then the replacement section of the drivers side floor is almost ready to weld in. Other wise the Single Cab is afoot done.🤔😲🤪

yeah, newer generation just wants to hop on fb and instagram and whatnot and not spend time conversing on message boards..

Dont do Face Book or twitter. Follow Insta cause my son is on there.
Just kinda hang out here not much going on car wise around here any more. And they just cancelled "Back to the fifties" due to the virus.

My wife blocks FB for some reason. It sucks because so many clubs and businesses only use it.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
HI, I had just started on here in 2012, then vanished due to company blowing up our business unit, doing dad's hospice at his house, selling my home, all at the same time. I kept only my Vanagon that I sunk too much into with a 1.8T conversion etc. The only thing I kept of my VR project, was the VR Emblem I bought from here and never installed. (#49)
Fast forward... my life will be in the Philippines within the next 2 years or less if all goes to plan, with a nice 20 year lease of 1.5 acres of beachfront property! :) I found there is VW scene in the Phils, but no VR's. I hope to change that!! I hope this site stays intact

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Im back. Though the reason why I was away was due to working my ass off only to get t-boned into a ditch by a woman in a rav-4 who thought that 4wd meant you can stop from 60MPH to 0 on wet snow. Yeah I know how a pinball feels. Hope to finally accomplish some goals here. Have a plan that will be useful and give me something to do while I try to heal up.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
We’re never too old or gray to start up a V-Rod project. From my viewpoint these projects keep us young at heart. 😃😃

Re: Its been almost 4 years
I was going to get rid of my abandoned Volks Rod Project.
But then I decided I should put it together.
After I sold my DuneBuggy 2 years ago and bought a 59 Ford, I was thinking of getting rid of all my VW stuff, but after 2 years I started missing VW's .... The only thing I was missing was an Engine, but a Friend gave me a T4 2.0 all disassembled in a box so here we go again.
I just finished building a V8 / AOD swap in my Ford and now another Engine, but this time its going to be super low Budget with an odd intake setup.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Which model ‘59 Ford do you have? I always liked their look and a friend had a Ranchero.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
Custom 300. Base model of the Fairlane. Came with a 223 6 cyl and a 2 speed Ford-O-Matic transmission.
It maxed out at 60 mph but got like 23 mpg. Was a really cool engine but I wanna be able to drive it out of town to shows and such eventually.
So I swapped out a 289 SBF I rebuilt myself.
I will post some pics of it soon if you wanna see it. Its rough and unrestored but complete and solid.

Re: Its been almost 4 years
The 289 is a great engine, perfect for both all around performance and gas mileage. Which tranny are you going to run? Definitely want to see photos of the project!
