Re: The PET THREAD...
Buddy is out of surgery. ALL of his organs were above his diaphragm, but all pulled out nicely. He was only breathing on a portion of one lung. He's a strong little guy. The next 24 hours will be real important. Thanks for all the support and mojo!

Re: The PET THREAD...
Sort of happy/sad week the last few days. Four of our rescue animals went to new homes this week= Happy. They were all some of my favorites= sad. Three mini horses went to start their new jobs as therapy animals for kids. Murray the burro has gone to be a companion for a lady burro who has gotten to old to be out on the range with the younger equines. She and Murray now have their own very nice small pasture with a grove of trees, small stream running through, and a nice warm and comfy barn for those cold Colorado nights. Bella, our pit dog rescue, is very upset because she can't find Murray. They had become best friends over the last year and spent a great part of each day racing each other back and forth along the pasture fence or laying down together (each on their own side of the fence) for naps. Vegas, another of our pits, seems to realize that she is upset and has been trying to get her to play with only some limited success. The human qualities we often see in these "vicious beed" dogs never fails to amaze me. Later this weekend one of our Arabian rescue horses will be going off to school in a program where teens learn how to be horse trainers. He will be the second one to go there, the first one was a great success and found a new home soon after completeing the school. In this case Kid has already met the young man who will be working with him and they bonded almost on sight. His parents have been in touch with us and the lady who runs the program to see if when his schooling is finished it would be allowed for them to adopt him ! Like I said, sad/happy. On the other side of the coin, tommorow we have two more mustangs coming in whose owner can no longer care for them. They are partly trained but will still need lots of work before they will be ready for new homes. As of today I believe the count for horses under our care stands at 76. And thats just the ones the girls tell me about.

Re: The PET THREAD...
Sunday it will be eight weeks since the vet gave Triumph, our nearly thirteen year old Golden Retriever, two to four weeks before his lung cancer killed him. Last September he had right him leg amputated due to bone cancer. At the time he was given two weeks without the operation, and five months with. He's a stubborn old dog and still gets around the yard; likes to go for short walks, loves to mooch pets at the lumber yard and wags his tail a lot.

Re: The PET THREAD...
Our horse rescue grew by four new mustangs yesterday. Three of them are family ,mom - dad - kid, and the fourth was a joiner to the group. This mini herd is very special in that they have been tracked for several years while they were free range animals (before they were caught in a government roundup) by a Mustang advocate group due to their unusual linage. The three light colored horses are Cremellos. Survival in the wild is much more difficult as their light coloring and blue eyes often lead to early blindness and shorter life spans. Our challenge here is to get them first of all to a point where they will let us handle them enough to put on and remove an eye shield (sort of sun glasses for horses) on a daily basis. After that comes all the normal training that will allow them to be adopted to new forever homes.

Re: The PET THREAD...
Jace is doing great and growing steadily. Still quite full of himself. Next weeks training for him is to get him to stand still long enough to get brushed out. I'll try to get an updated picture then. Just standing still is an important step for a young active horse. So many things depend on them being at ease. Grooming, hoof trimming, vet work, etc. It is a critical step in our training program.

Next time we are in Co. we have to stop by. We were going to swing over last year but it was too tight of a schedule.

Re: The PET THREAD...
No, not albino. Cremello is basicly a color gene (cream) combined with eye color gene , to give a double genetic mix that prduces the linage. Many breeds can carry one gene or the other, but it's the double up that make these guys special.

Re: The PET THREAD...
Triumph update. Last week the vet gave him another two to four weeks. Today we hit the lumber yard where he and Bonnie (our soon to be 12 YO cocker spaniel) got treats from the folks there, and hung out on their small lawn area mooching pets from customers. His 13th birthday is coming up July 26th.

Re: The PET THREAD...
Our horses are going to be in a book ! OK, maybe not that exciting for folks out in the world, but great for us. Two teenage sisters who work with us have written a book about the Cremellos. It will be published as a paperback coffee table book, and as I understand will be about thirty to forty pages with lots of pictures. Should be available soon on Amazon and will be selling for $14 to $15 all profits will be coming to the horse rescue. One of the girls did a T-shirt project earlier this year that brought in about $500 for us so we are all very hopeful about the book and very proud of the girls. The title is WILD.
