My name is Dan, and I live in Williamsburg Virginia. My first car was a 1970 classic bug, and have owned several air cooled and watercooled VW's over the years. The past several years I have been into muscle cars and pro-touring builds. I have been wanting to do a hotrod build to take to Goodguy's events, and while at the Columbus Nationals this summer, I saw this car:
At first I thought it was a hotrodded, chopped Super Beetle, but its actually a chopped 1963 Volvo PV544. This has given me the inspiration for my new build, a V8 powered, chopped, channeled, stretched Beetle hotrod. Within a week, I whipped up this sketch of what I am calling the V8 Bugrod:
I have been doing a bunch of research, and have found volksrod.com to be a great site, so here I am. I have a lot more information to share on the project, but will save that for the
V8 Bugrod Build Thread.
A little more about myself, I am originally from Minnesota, and lived there most my life. I transferring around several times about 15 years ago, spending time in Plano TX, Huntsville AL, and ending up in the Hampton Roads, VA area for the past 10 years. I started my career as a Mechanical Engineer, and specialized in the application of computers in Engineering. I have evolved into a full time Software Engineer, working in the Washington DC area. But my true passions are for all things mechanical, and especially cars. Projects where I use my hands and build things are physical therapy for my brain.
