Re:: I like the forum

Just to introduce myself.
So my first car was a '72 1200 single port bug that I paid £50 for in the mid eighties, (probably guessed I am a Brit, but if you didn't I am from the UK). At the time my buddy was into psycho-billy and had a Vauxhall PA Cresta (50's style car with fins). He convinced me to de-chrome and slam my bug, which I did by using pop rivets and bondo to fill the holes left over and took a few leaves out of the front suspension...yes it ran on the bump stops. I didn't quite get the rear torsions right either so the one side was 1/2" lower and to sort this out I just put a 25lb weight on the opposite side.

Fast forward a few years and I am at the point where I can now spend time on some projects. I currently have a '67 Porsche 912 that is being put back together. It isn't a resto but I have decided to go with an original type 616 motor. I am also fortunate to have a type 2 Bay window that is a little more custom but not really a rod.

So your probably wondering why I like this forum and not the Samba! Well I managed to score a '59 rhd bug that is actually in very good condition and I was tempted to do a resto-cal, but my heart wasn't really in it. I want to do something really different, and I think you guys would appreciate it and what I am going to do.

I will post some pictures of the 912 as it gets ready for the road if you want to see them, it isn't a rod but it is a cool car.

I can post the campervan too if you want to see some of the body mods again not really a rod but...it is air cooled

You will have to wait for the '59 bug as I don't have any room in the garage to start it yet but I think it will be worth the wait.

This is out of sync but I have to post these pictures. I managed to find a type 616 engine for the Porsche. It has just landed from the States after a few weeks on the sea.

The engine is a '67 roughly the same as the car and I have noticed a few companies now selling the same style oil filters...which is nice

Just looking at the engine and it needs a tidy-up, maybe re-route the HT leads through the shroud and move the coil to the back...

Someone had put a rag top on the car, prefer to have it solid so I managed to get a new roof section...
