HI,
Half way through this build. Taken a bit of a full on approach, but the plan was to leave some standard VW parts in to throw the eye. Also couldn't do a chop top as the client is 6'3 and needs to be able to drive it.
We have cut a '73 back to the central tube and forks, welded on seamless tube to form a chassis. Then taken whats left of the body and welded that back to the chassis and finished all the pillars. The rear arch is as you see it, there are custom dished inner wings to fit, but they don't cut in far so you can still see the front tube work. Its 10inch extended to the front and 3inch off the bottom. Its got standard size beam tubes on custom cnc'd mounts.
The next step is to fit the parts waiting on the shelf:
Inboard front shocks mounted flat under the nose.
New steering rack and fittings. (she's running smoothed standard torsion arms)
SCAT 2332cc turnkey running 44's into a freeway flyer.
Custom discs all round.
Custom American racing wheels with old style tall sidewall tyres. The rear is the same size as the rear arch.
Old style boot lid.
Full leather interior
Spun alloy fuel tanks
and off course a lick of paint.
She's going to be very light up front, at the moment (as in the pics) two people can lift the car easily. So a couple of little wheelie stoppers are going to be out back to protect the engine.
Its on hold for a couple of months while a finish a '67 spa for the same customer, then I'll be finishing her for the summer shows.
