[attachmentid=6214][attachmentid=6215] Hi, to everyone . I have been addicted to the aircooled craze for over twenty years or so . Now that I have a X- wife it is time to get something going again. Been a tough few years . Here is a project that someone else needs to own so I get what I really want . Fiirst photo is what it was years ago, when someone else had it going. The second shot is what is left of it . The car has a ton of things done to it . I really would like to keep it ! Would be an awesome daily driver . Have a garage full of volksrod items just waiting for the right car and price for me to get going. So I am thinking should I put the time and money into the Baja ghia . Or sell the car and a ton of stuff I have and get what I really want. Either way this site rocks, thanks !

Wow the car does look good posted on the net . The last photo was about 18 months ago. I havesince then gotten the fiberglass front end back on. Had the rag top redone. Put the front and rear cages on . Need to get stub axles and I want to go with a type 4 motor. It already has been updated to a late bus trans. Kills me to work on it when what I want is something else. I want a sick, slammed, chopped volksrod with no fenders, semiphores and a split window graft just to piss off the cal-look crowd , with the motor hanging out baja style. YAH That would make my day ! But for now working on this one is better then not working on anything. That's why I am posting here. Hope you folks don't mind .

Ok , the plan that would work out the best for me is to get down to one project . Since this is the only car with a title and the most complete, this is the one for now to fix up. That's good news for every one else. Hope you can all help ! I have some cool items I would like to swap out for things that I need. Lets see if we can make every one happy. As you know I wanted a vrod of some type and have gathered some goodies to build one. Items to trade to help this project are: Lift off fiberglass top for a 32 ford roadster , early bug convertible doors, and a 1949 ford dash . So if you are reading this ,what can we swap out to make things happen ? Dont want to just do the cash thing, want to swap out parts for parts and see what the adventure can bring. Who knows might be fun . Also have an aftermarket rag top for a type III squareback and other parts

[attachmentid=6713] Here are a few old photos of the cars early years. My oldest daughter is going to start college in august, so I hope to get things going soon after that . Still think I want to sell the car for a early bug to cut up. Also picked up a 2.0 lt bus motor that needs a valve job . Spent the week taking the motor apart and doing the parts cleaner shuffle. Looks good inside ,got a quote for $ 180.00 to do the valves . Will send the case out next week to be tanked.

[attachmentid=8076][attachmentid=8075][attachmentid=8074]Well I have made up my mind. Listed it on the samba. Bad pictures but it should still sell. My landlord put a for sale in my front yard, so I am going to buy a house now. But when I get a new house I will start on what I really want to build. Here are some shots of the BAJA GHIA MONSTER and friend.

Been a lurking for a LONG time. Sold the Baja Ghia several years ago. Found a cut up 63 ragtop baja. Plus an oval clip. Took a while but chopped the car 4 1/2 inches and added the clip. Still have a ton of work ahead but it is starting to come together.

The car had a fiberglass one piece front end when I got it. Just about all the sheetmetal was cut off except for part of the wheel wells. Found a later hood full of louvers cheap. So ,I had to figure a way to have a late hood on an early car. Still not done with it yet. Wanted a front like the Green Hornet from Japan. It worked out well, now have a place for the front license plate to keep the cops happy around here. Moved the grills into the center pan and will have blinkers behind them.

For the back, the plan is to keep it as much VW as possible. Spent WAY too much time making tail light pods out of 1963-1965 tail light housing and used cut down deck lid hinges for mounts. Luck helped me run into a louvered decklid. Car now has 170 louvers. Thinking of using 75mm artilary shells for exhaust tips. Not sure about those yet. yep I know the tailight housings are crooked in the picture fixed them after !

Winter has killed the garage time. Did get the windows back in the doors. The plan is to drive it ,in the old miss and matched paint to get the bugs worked out. Final paint scheme will be od green with door art from a B-17 that crashed into the VW factory during WW2. Going to add "Lest We Forget " to the door before I get it out this time. Got tons of body work left to do, so the paint patches ,for now ,will fit the theme. Really want to be able to drive and fix it as I go. Have the vent windows and the pop outs to finish up and install.

My 30plus year old welder bit the dust . going to buy a new welder this summer.(I hope) Been thinking what to do with my seats, trying to use Volkswagen parts in every place I can. Concept is to use factory seat frames but turn them into bomber style some how. Guess what I used for the seat bottom had half of a front hood. Maybe you guys with talent can use this idea but do it right. That's paint not dents you see. Check out my tail light housing to. Slow going but still having fun

Used part of a floor pan and parts of a door for the back. Back straps just for looks. Will add holes when I get some dimple dies.

Plan to make a pad for the square in center of the back and butt cheek pads in the raised portion on the bottom. At a stand still for the second seat, until funds for a new welding magically appear . Switching gears now to the wiring, fun ,fun
