Re: 1slo3
alright! as of right now, the 2110 only needs manifolds, alternator and the deep sump added. the tin, exhaust, dizzy and coil are on!

Re: 1slo3
the kymco exhaust SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just went to tighten it all down and the pipes are bent in such a way that i had to remove the bottom tin to get the pipes together. this freaking sucks! i've had it too long to return. this is the worst 200 bucks i've ever spent on parts.

Re: 1slo3
one of the joys i have found in vw ownership is when you are dealing with original parts... if you are fortunate enough to own an original car, it is amazing the quality you find. however, owning an original car can also have its downfalls. example... this weekend i needed to replace the rear brakes on my 412 w/ 80k miles on it. the drums are original, the pads are original and the RUST holding the drum to the hub is original!
so, after some frustration and a 3lb sledge, i found nothing helping. fast forward to today... i tried a very logical suggestion from a friend. he suggested pulling the set screws that hold the drum on the hub when the lugs are off and putting the car in drive rev it up, then slam on the brakes. NOTHING happened within several attempts. so, plan B. pull out the new propane torch, heat the hub up enough to get everything smoking. still nothing! improvised plan C... heat up the hub/drum, put the car in drive rev it up and slam on the brakes! whaaaaalaaaaaa!!!!!!!! drum is off. now to inspect the expected damage of metal on metal braking. one pad had about 5% of its material left... the other had 3/4 showing bare metal. so, rear brakes are done. heat works, wipers work and the car is a blast to drive. next will be work on the appearance... gotta do volksrods proud!

Re: 1slo3
Alright, after alot of banging, grinding and lube... the exhaust is on the 2110. now i just need to build new lower tin to go around the header J tube for proper cooling. Anyway, here is the engine with everything but the alternator and linkage for the 36 dells.

Re: 1slo3
i'm starting the build of the lower engine tin this weekend. kymco's design does not allow for lower t3 tin... i am going to correct this issue.

Re: 1slo3
i have my t3 manifolds coming in a couple days! now i get to button it all up and let it sit. ihave to wait and see what happens for work/weekends and racing at this point. but, if i get a job that puts me on the bottom of the ladder, you know when I'll be working... nights/weekends.

Re: 1slo3
i spent a hour today in the sun working off the woodgrain decal from the 412. it went pretty well until i got to the driver's door. the texture of the decal and the glue seem to be much different and as such it refuses to release from the paint. grrrr.... i'd say i'm about 80% there. if i wasn't feeling so freaking ill, i'd keep fighting it. also, i ran out of energy before i could lower the nose another inch or 2.

Re: 1slo3
took the 195/50/15s off the rear and put the 195/65/15s on instead to lower the rpms on the freeway. much better! saturday i am going to take a bit more spring out of the front of the car to fill the fender better.

Re: 1slo3
spent a bit of today getting the 412 visually noticeable. found out almost all my running/braking bulbs were burnt! so, pulled the lenses and put fresh bulbs in everywhere... spent a bit more time pulling the decal off the driver's door and mounted the surf board on the top of the rack....

Re: 1slo3
well, the 412 is down for a few days... the fan belt flipped (didn't break) and in doing so, it tore up the plastic air boot that keeps the cooling air from getting mixed with exhaust before going into the fan. since i can't find a replacement, i will have to pull and fix the current piece. oih!
on an up note, the shorty manifolds for the 2110 arrived today and now the engine will have the carbs on it in the correct position so i can measure and make sure everything will fit

Re: 1slo3
the 412 ran into the same issue it resently had. figured out that it had the wrong pulley on the alternator! so, i have a new one coming and then the 412 will be my daily again. i started putting the 2332cc top end back on and by the time the weather gets nice for summer, it should be back on its slix doing fun summer things. the race car isn't done yet, just waiting for a break in both weather and time. it is relegated to the driveway and i hate working under a wet car.

Re: 1slo3
well, it is small progress, but progress none the less... the ace car engine got the new to me 45 dells added and the linkage was massaged to work a bit better than before. i added the oil filler tube on the case and am ready to do some minor detail work before finally getting to hand the engine in the bay. once that happens, the car will be put back on the ground as a roller and i can start to do all the little interior wiring things needed to add the n2o, rev limiter, line loc and seats! finally getting closer...
oh, and all i have left to do to the flying eyeball on the nose of the 412 is add the bloodshot veins!

Re: 1slo3
well, after some interesting time this last week with my Pop in the hospital, our generally being broke and my having no opportunities to do anyy VW work, i have decided to sell all the vws, parts and things less the 343 and speedster. it's time for all of it to go. thanks for all the fun guys, but it is time for me to move on.
