Spanish Flea
So i've been sandbagging long enough on this site. Finally joined and now posting.
I've picked up a decent '63 that will get the Volksrod treatment. i'll post pix here soon.
BTW, looking though some of the older threads (the better how-to's) a lot of the pictures are missing. Kinda sucks not having the visual to go along with the story.
Till I post again.

Re: Spanish Flea
Though i have a month before i can pull the body and start cutting. I have been spending some time pulling off the alum-tape, and cleaning out the rust and dirt. Welded on a deck hinge and mounted the decklid. Wired up the license light.
Anyone have any secrets on making the seat tracks operate smoothly? PM me please.

So here are a few pix. Nothing special now, but I've got plans. One of the cool things is it has the factory air unit. Just need to get a compressor.
All for now,

Re: Spanish Flea
No real updates for now.
Removed the AC unit. tested the Motor, it's burnt out.
Found out why there was Alum/Tape on the side mirror. It fell off while driving down the road.
Ordered my beam extender, 10" baby! Got to talk to Doug on the phone. What a great guy! Looking forward to getting my extender .
In about two weeks i can get my cars out of the gurage and the '63 in for a body removal and cut/weld.
Updated my project completion date to Feb. 2K13
Till next time,

Re: Spanish Flea
Drove the '63 again today... Thankfully nothing fell off.
Took off the body trim. Being they were taped and silicone in place, the metal under was perfect, except for the passenger front cowl, which is a bit crusty. (no pix)
Bit the bullet and peeled off the last of the Alum/Tape on the cowl.
Before pix......
After.....
But it was to be expected. Thankfully i bought a dash that has that piece. (Ahead of the game.)
As i posted in the previous post i removed the A/C unit.
These are the holes it leaves behind.
Peace out!

Not much is new. it's been a crazy past week. My kid had a temp since last wed. and my best friend flew in to visit for 2 weeks. Thankfully he has car skills. So looking to get cracking on at least on pan.
Over the weekend we got some aggression out via a small girls bike. Which is now hanging in the garage. (pix soon)
Oh forgot, Doug just texted me, my 10 inches are on the way!!!

Re: Spanish Flea
So I'm doing the snoopy dance!
Got my 10 inches yesterday. The box was waiting for me when i got home.
THANKS DOUG!!!! This thing looks great!
But now i have one problem, in the past i saw a parts list to get this installed. But i forgot to write it down or save the link to it.
It's what i need to bolt this in, i've been looking since last night to find the thread. Thanks Murphy.
I know it's 8 (grade 8) bolts, but i don't know the length.
Can someone shoot me that info via PM?
Thanks,
Spanish Flea

I don't remember my last post that was deleted due to old back up.
The 10 inches is mocked up on the pan, and the pan halves have been cut out. Looking to get the new ones installed, well at least one by tues.

Re: Spanish Flea
Ok, so i did a little work over the weekend. I pressure washed the front end and tranny. (Please next time force me to take it to a place to do this and not do it in the driveway.)
Before and Afters:
Now mind you i have already taken a lot of grease/dirt off by the time i took this pix.
I also got the pans welded in......
Pans are fitted, I don't have a full pix of them welded in.
Going to apply some seam sealer and paint.
Got to order some rubber,

Dropped Spindals.
Mis. Rubber parts for the pan.
Thinking of cutting the front and rear off this weekend.
Also don't know if i mentioned this, but i got icepick doors!!! and will try to strip those down to get ready to mount and cut.
Oh, i pulled the tranny, i think the nose cone was leaking, The whole thing was covered in about a 1/2 inch of crud. So a new seal for the cone.

But the past week i did cut the front apron off.
And i knew this, but this is what the cowl looked like (i think i posted a pix in another post.
So off with it's cowl!!!
Getting ready to weld in the new piece.
All the rust that was shaken out of the heater channel.
Yeah, they will be replaced too.

Re: Spanish Flea
Got the replacement cowl tacked in. (sorry no pix yet)
And yesterday i ordered new heater channels and a few rubber parts for the pan.
Plan is to do some more welding on the cowl tonight. then its off on a cruse in the '52.
Oh, i got a call from a fellow zippo collector the other day. I used to do some mods on zippos 5+ years ago. I did a lot of business for him. Well he wants me to cut up 7 more zippos. The money i get for that will pay for my RHD pedal cluster!!!
This is the work i do, I cut up these both.
Enjoy your weekend!

Re: Spanish Flea
Ok quick update, HC's have not been worked on yet. Body is still off the pan. I hope to get it together this weekend. But there is a catch. I might be picking up a '56 body and pan. I'll be cutting up this car, i'll use the full roof clip for the ratrod, and source out other metal that may be needed. We'll see once i get my hands on the body. It may be in better shape than the '63.
Just when you think you have things planned out, the VR Gods changes things up a bit.

Re: Spanish Flea
In effort to keep my thread at the top of the list, i did some work on the rod.
we got the body mounted on the pan. Looks like we did a good job mounting the pans. Still need to add the body seal and bolt it down.
I will be leaving tomorrow (Saturday) to get the '56 body&pan. We will see how things play out after i see that. (Don't tell the wife, i may be building to Rat Rods )
Oh pix, almost for got the pix.
All for now,

Small update.
Installed a chain hoist in my cave.
Two weeks ago ordered my paint. Called yesterday, they lost the order and it has been shipped. Should get it by Sat.
Got the gurage cleaned up a bit. Next move is getting paint and painting the pan.

Re: Spanish Flea
Dear Diary,
So yesterday a friend came over and sanded the top of the pan. When i got home from work we painted the top. Will sand/paint the bottom this weekend.
[rant] the PO who put in the pans did a great job for one he didn't take out bits of the old pan, just trimmed it to the tunnel. then proceeded to use a mig without gas, then followed it up with a pass with a arc welder. Needless to say i had to fill a 1cm gap under the pan with seam sealer. The stock Nazi in me is . i have to keep reminding me it's a Volksrod . [/rant]
Till next time,

Re: Spanish Flea
Ha, still around, been sand bagging on the site the past few weeks. My motivator got a job, night time gig, witch leaves me on my own again. . Spent a little time on the body Sat. got the driver side square using the door gaps as a general guide. then welded two tabs to the door and quarter panel to hold things together. Also looks like where i will be channeling the body i'll have to raise up the luggage shelf in the back, *sigh* more work. But it will be worth it in the end.
I hope to start cutting some metal out this weekend.

Re: Spanish Flea
So we left at 4am from Ft. Lauderdale, got to Daytona a little before 8am. We passed some nice rides on the way, but doing 90mph all the way i couldn't do much but wave as we passed them.
Hit the swaps, . Scored some head light for the VR.
'36 Ford passenger car. These things are big, and the best part is they have a turn sig. bulb inside.
Had a great time, Called Eric (Fernon) but didn't meet up with him. Saw a few vw parts. At 6pm we called it a day and hit the road, made it home by 915pm.
