Hi Rodders,
Been a long time VW fan, built a tray top beetle back in 1983, and now after many years of toying around with other stuff, with VW's on the back of my mind, I've alway's been planninig on a custom T3 fastback, to be followed by a chopped beetle, (one at a time is enough). My plan is to built a concept Empi GTV. I know they offered this back in the sixtie's, but I want to chop the ugly bits out and build it a little, or very different. So I bought a 68 model in bits with heaps of spare panels, which I have found handy when cutting things up. I've started chopping the roof, prefer not to chop the windscreen or rear glass where possible, so in this case I am able to lay them down instead. This took a bit of figuring out, for the windscreen I cut around the cowl and laid it back with the dash attached. The rear section, I cut right around the underside of the boot lid so that I could lay it down, I ended up with shortening the roof by least 5 inche's, that's usually the difference from a usual chop where your adding sheet metal to the roof. I'll post more pic's as I go along. Regards, Frank.
