Default Super beetle based patina rod

Just getting started on my rat rod. Picked up a 1972 (same model year as me!) Super Beetle with some pretty cool patina. It's missing a motor currently but mostly all there otherwise. Plan in the short run is to lower it, hand lay some pinstriping, long rat rod shifter and paint the rims and my logo distress painted on the door. The first picture is how it sits currently, the second is a photoshop mockup.

First sanding of the patina to lose some of the rough edges. Test fit the wider rear rims

Next step was to put aged logo on doors, paint the rims and mount up wider rear tires.

Next, remove the front fenders, chop the front springs, swap on 68' hood and start cutting out front. Headlight rings in place for mock-up of headlights.

More cutting. Looks like I need another coat of Boiled Linseed Oil to get the gloss back.

Next up - placing the headlights and fill in the void.... stay tuned.

Made a little cosmetic progress. Began work on a DIY roof rack, installed the headlights, converted seats from high back to low buck low backs Design borrowed from "Frankie" build on here), and some license plate décor. The dash says CRE-8 in case you can't see it well in the pics
