Default Sliding headliner idea
Re:: Need your custom heads

So I was thinking about trying to have a headliner that slides back, maybe uising the space in the inner roof that the headliner bows would sit in. You of course are going to ask why? Well I am grafting my roof rack into my roof (trying something different) and while I care little about losing my protection from the elements, my wife feels differently. Ultimately she has her bug and I am building my volskrod, but I was looking at my car tonight and I started to wonder if I could work something out.

My other bug has a Paris Beetles ragtop and it is really just aluminum tracks riveted into the roof on both sides and then aluminum bows that have rectangular nylon peices riveted in and used through a vinyl top.

So my question for your great minds...What would I use to do something similar inside?

here is a pic showing the why behind going with this inner headliner.

How about something like a Roman shade. make up slats that would fit in the grooves, then make up a fabric headliner with pockets for the slats. slide them back and the fabric will just drop into pleats hanging from the roof. space them fairly close and they won't droop down too far.

That's a good idea. Lowes has them for about $30 in bamboo . you may be able to modify them to work...
I cut this wire times and it's still too short.
