Every friday I take my son on a drive down the canyon to Lewiston, Idaho (about 50 miles from my house), and we always come back by going up the Spiral Highway. It's called the Spiral Highway because, well, this:
The road in white is the Spiral Highway, it was replaced by the yellow road to the left quite some time ago. If you live anywhere near the area you need to drive this road, it is absolutely a blast. From the bottom of the grade to the top, the vertical rise is just over 1800 feet... on an eleven mile road...
Anyways, back to business. Halfway up the grade (going faster than "responsible"~my son loves speed, so his fault!) I see this T-bucket roadster about a half mile ahead. We catch up a few turns later and I can hear that it's a four cylinder car, which is cool to me because I'm cheap and somewhat frugal. We get to the top and he takes off and I realize that what I thought was a bent axle was actually a swing axle, and that I was looking at an aircooled engine, a real honest-to-goodness VW T-bucket roadster!
(Pic for reference, the one I saw was black, and didn't have the wood trim around the box)
Anyways, this being the home of all things Volkrod, I thought maybe you gearheads and goofballs might know who this fellow is... I was even holding out hope he was part of this board!
Long story short? Saw a cool car, does anyone know it?
Thanks,
Rich
