The ends from a '57 Chevy Bumper would wrap around real nice.

A couple notches near the middle for tail pipes would be cool,
or run the pipes through holes in the bumper.

and I will need to do some significant mods to get the sweep of the blade to match the rear of the vehicle the way I want it to. I am also thinking of eliminating the part of the blade under the towel bar and having the exhaust exit there.

More to come.

When you cut the ends off to narrow the bumper,
maybe you can use the offcuts to extend the sides forward.

Not much on that car wasn't made for it specifically.

I still can't believe you've ruined a perfectly good Fasty. Oh, wait, it's a late model carry on!

Dash looks fantastic man! I think this is one of those additions that really transforms the car.

Don't think it will be very meaningful....considering all the metal I have cut out of the roof and how much I have added back in to the rear fenders, decklid, etc.

Got pics? I alsways like see what others have done to their Type 3s.

Thanks for all the kind words folks. Keeps me going with the project.

I managed to steal an hour or so after work today. Just about got the Merc Bumper disassembled. Did a bunch more thinking thru different ways to modify the bumper to work on the rear of the car. I have a plan in my head. Should get some time tomorrow and over the weekend to try some of it.

Sorry nothing new to take pics of. Should have more over the weekend.

Hi John. My 3 is pretty straight forward. Simple cut, Backwindow laid forward and kept full size. It was started by someone else who had a good plan but missed some of the cuts, so there is a lot of patch and reshaping to do. I totally flunked putting photos on the computer but am still trying to figure it out... so some day? If you want to give me a call (970)872-4804 work or (970) 921-7665 home and tell me what you would like to see I'll take some regular photos and send them to you . John Ware aka ALYKAT

I did manage to get out this afternoon for a few hours and play with the rear bumper for the sled. If you remember, I bought a 49 Merc bumper a couple of weeks ago.

Well, after much , , and , I ended up with this.

Now I just need to make the other side match. I also have to decide if I am going to narrow up the upper center bar to use the original bolt locations in the lower bumper piece or leave the center section alone and move the bolt locations....

I vote leave theupper bar full length (as is)

looks balanced ... I dont think it will look very good if the two vertical risers are too close together...

excellent work, man:) made my day seein the progress:)

wow.... the bumper REALLY makes the rearend, gives it the heft, needed for the "sled" look. I vote keep it wide, it looks more massive that way, it doesn't look right when the taglight/trim is wider than the overider. But thats just me, this is your genious creation.

Wow John... you don't stop impressing me with this project man.

I honestly don't think you could've come up with a more perfect bumper treatment than that right there. (I like the wider version better BTW).

Those bumper ends are the TITS!

That really ties the back end together. Keep up the great work!

My votes for the wider top bar.
