Dead on what I was picturing it needed to fit the rear ends of the fender extensions.

I can't believe that's what you ended up with from that bumper you started with. I was totally thinkin WTF is he gonna do with that?

I think I kinda like it narrow as it hides more of the rear valence, but then it is looking for a licence plate down there.
Might be perfect place for the coalition tag.
Next you're gonna need some bad ass exhaust tip set up coming out between the over riders.

Just WOW dude.

Next question, is it getting painted or re-chromed??

To quote the 90's Pontiac saying, "wider is better".

The narrowed version is begging for a license plate in there. Since the plate will be mounted higher, it would make the plate mount/tag light look like an after thought.

However, if you did narrow it, it would make a nice frame for a VR Club Plaque.....

Another thought..... Either way, wide or narrow, it would look good with two 3" exhaust tips (evenly spaced) right there in the center.

The bumpers will get paint at first. Probably rattle can chrome paint. Eventually I will get them re-chromed when I finally get around to putting real paint on the car....a long time from now.

I am working on some ideas for the exhaust. Will likely exit in the center area of the bumper. Not sure yet whether or not it will be a pair of tips or a single large wide tip.

Glad everyone is liking the rear bumper so far. Still need to find a 56 Merc Montclair front bumper for it.

The spacing on the narrow version looks more uniform and and at first I thought that was the one I liked. But, after so much time staring at the two that my family is looking at me funny I say the wider one looks better.

Well, I have to disagree once more. I think that the narrow version looks better. It looks more proportionate to the decklid and evens the rear out a little better.

I vote wide. Looks just bitchen John.

I'd love to see the exhaust coming through the bumper ends, just below the tail lights.

I think the narrow looks more even. It looks like the two sections of bumper and the center gap are the same width. I'm all about symmetry. Loking at the pictures, honestly half way between probably is just about right. align the center of the over riders with the ends of the license plate hood.

I was thinking the same a Heidelberg. Some where in the middle, with the center of the over riders matching the width of the plate light. This way it looks like the outer edge of the over riders just might also line up with the lines of the plate recess

Are the photos/photoshop at an angle? The recess and plate light don't line up evenly with the bumper/over riders. Or is it just me?

Either way

That is one of the thoughts I have for the exhaust. Fab some exhaust tips that mirror the shape of the bumper ends, but upside down and have them just below the bumper ends. I will have to do up a few photoshops of my ideas.

Yeah, I wwas looking at the same thing tonight. Probably will end up somewhere in between the two Photoshops.

The photo I took is not quite symmetric and I just copied and pasted the left side to the right side so it is off a little I am sure. The decklid might not be sitting square to the world either.

I managed to make a start on the right side of the bumper tonight. Got the first joint welded together and roughed in. I still need to shape it to the fender and weld on the straight center section. Then I can start getting the overrider center section fit.

I can see something mimicking the shape and horizontal dimension of the bumper ends but maybe only 1 to 1.5 tall at the most so they are almost looking like like slots and tucked just under the bumper ends. Almost like a wide fan tip for a propane torch. That bitch needs to be driggin it''s ass on the ground. Hook up some lakes and that would look bad ass with a wide flat flame blasting from under each corner!!!

The whole rear is visually stimulating enough. I thing simple "pea shooters" would work just fine.

Spent some more time with the Sled's rear bumper. Got it roughed together. Some more and to do before it is done. Need to tweak the alignment of the pieces and clean up a few spots. Pics below.

Still need to trim the blade between the overriders.

The small "bite" out of the cross bar is going to get filled. I am going to try to hammer in the small peak to continue it all the way to the edge.

I am also going to do something with the ends of the bumper. Probably just add a filler piece in to make it match the fender.

I am working on a rough rendering of the rear view to see what it will look like all one color and to add in some exhaust concepts.....watch this space.
