Dedication, dedication, dedication. Just read this thread a few times, and man are you working your butt off JOHN! Looking good. That is a bit more than I would have ever modified for my type three, but your really making your vision work, and boy are you getting some good scores for the project. I like it.

Keep it up.

So, whats next?

Thanks for the compliments folks. I am really enjoying this build. Hope to actually get it done some day.

Anyway... I did a sketch of the front view similar to the one I did in the rear. Played around with the colors too. I still want to modify the sketch to show the other bumper overriders, but I do like these.

BTW, I did notice that I forgot to add in the visor detail. Will probably add that when I add the other overriders.

I haven't really been on in awhile but this was one of the first cars I thought of when I started lurking again today. It looks amazing John! Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see it finished.

It might just be me....

But is there any plan for detail in that front nose area john?
Just looks like it's missing something to me.

As usual, awesome work man!

It needs a big toothy grill in there.

I am not sure.

I played around with the grill bar and the large bullet from the 53 Ford, but they weren't doing anything for me. A grill is a little too "fake" for me on this car since the engine is in the back and air-cooled. I just don't know.

I like the simplicity of the nose the way it is, but I agree it is a little simpler than the rest of the car. I will have to keep and seeing what I can come up with.

Or extend the hood peak down into the front panel.

Don't put a grill!!! I agree It lacks something... But it ain't a grill. That would most definatly be too "fake". Everything else on the car is so perfect and relativly subtle.

I did get to thinking earlier about it and all I could think of was taking some of the "point" out of the nose... Ya know, round out the front of the hood a bit more and have it more straight across?...

Don't know if that makes sense, it worked in my head. And take my opinion for whats it's worth; all my stuff looks like ass and lacks imagination. So not worth much

Edit: I guess I'm thinking it needs a bit of a bulge to keep what seems to be a merc "theme". But then again, if it was sitting in my driveway I wouldn't change a thing... I would love her the way she is. Jane's a hottie

That's all I think it'd need... just that OG type3 bar on the edge of the hood. I've always loved that look.

Wow! This is what I just finished sketching up!

It would need to be a custom piece since the late Type 3 hoods are different shape than the early hoods.

That sounds like a BIG challenge
for a guy who makes his own bumpers.

WOW!!

Everybody's reading my mind tonight!

That's kinda what I thought when I read that.!
I was thinking that it wouldn't be anything for jon to "stretch" one from two or more pieces.

Dunno how hard they are to come by?

This is really a great project. It's great that you are letting us interact as you go along. It would be cool if someone created a volksrod that all the custom work was voted on here and the winning choice would happen to the car.
BTW I still vote for the red/black 2 tone

I love the illustrations. It's hard for me to visualize the final product with it being so many different colors, sometimes it looks like the proportions are off to me...then I see his illustrations and it all comes together. This car is amazing.

the face of a type 3 isn't flat... it has a continuous curve. john... the early notch beak is much shorter and the curve there isn't that much different than the late hoods... we could make it fit!
