Went out to the local cruise-in with Stefan and his Buick last night. There was a top fuel dragster there and we parked right next to it. Eventually they fired this monster up and a huge crowd gathered around it and in front of the Buick to see the flames shooting out the pipes. i was standing up on the driver's side door jamb of the Buick and Stefan all of a sudden yells over to me to take a picture of the louvers on his hood. So I did.

Then he said come over here and get the louvers from this side!

So I did.

Then he said get a picture of that orange Dodge going by.

But I kinda missed it.

My wife's health was off the tracks for the last few weeks, so we cancelled our planned trip to Hot August Nights in Reno (was to be next week). Saline flushes of her temporary tubing (now removed) and other 24/7 nursing duties kept me out of the shop, so there was no way I would get The SuperPhaeton ready in time (I was behind schedule anyway), plus we don't want to be 750 miles away from the folks with her medical records if there's a reoccurence.

So, I spent the last several weeks killing time at the 'puter while she slept. Of relevance here, I used the animation editor that came with PaintShopPro to produce this - a 129kb "topdown/topup" looping cartoon:

If you just want to see the topup version, click here: http://www.carcentric.com/lightnin.jpg

The real thing would require sewing a canvas top and bending some 3/4" tubing for support, and would be erected in the fashion of a British roadster top (unlike a convertible top, roadster tops come apart for storage - they don't fold down). It'd flap like hell at freeway speeds, but would offer some shade at lower speeds. I like the lines, especially with the bustle trunk, but can't tell about headroom and visibility (the windshield will be fairly low).

Whatchathink? Does it still look like a '74 SuperBeetle?

We painted the spare bedroom, aka Kaitlyn's room, Disney PINK, fun. I hung 21 outside patio lights from the celeing to put that little extra in to to help make her feel more at home on her new home. Next weekend I will be making a new toy box and hobby table.

got the t4 out friday night, he dropped toad sat morning, we pushed the car out, I backed mine in, dropped leaky butt, by 10:30am. Stripped his intake, ex, and doghouse, Went on to pressure washing his engine and I dismantled all my trim stuff, pressure washed all the trim, it was caked underneath will oil. He pulled my tranny out, got the new free flyer in, then we went to putting all my trim stuff on his. Carb came from the bus, which is originally from the t4, cooling tins, intakes, and my doghouse. It's installed by 8pm .
Will run today.
Had stomache ache last night, maybe it was the heat or the frustration I vented at my kids last night. After I made supper for them at 815, I told them they can call me super mom, I got a look that meant explain.. ''I started the day by washing adult (ours) clothes, helped pull 2 engines ,put clothes on the line, and helped re~install one engine , took clothes off line, cleaned their nasty bathroom,(cuz they didn't) did all that and still had the time to make yuo boys hotdogs and mac n cheese.'' hubby was still picking up in tha garage.
Today's another day, and maybe another engine, bus gets dropped, maybe~

Now that the missus is self-sufficient again, I finished adding a 30-amp circuit so I can continue to use my Hobart AF 250A (120v plasma cutter) without tripping the should-have-been-adequate 20 amp circuit breaker.

Field tested the 250A a while, then I went back to trying to get the steering box out of the SuperB. I think the crash damage is keeping the box from dropping down and out - it's unconnected and loose, but hangs up on the crossmember under the tire well. Looks like I need to cut off more of the frontend before I can get the steering box out . . . .
