as for not having a car left....my car is substantially lighter than when i bought it lol
BUT! after class I had an hour or so of light left and put some metal BACK on my car. It was an exciting moment. I do realize that most of it will be taken off later when i can weld better or have the slightest clue as to what I'm doing, but it was a needed morale boost.

Yes, yes I know the welds are ugly. I've welded for 3 days...I don't claim to be an expert. On the upside....they hold(atleast sheetmetal) so I'm ok with it for the time being. Flux core wire is a pain.

Well not yesterday but saturday I went to ohio with parts and reloaded up and brought parts back for my chassis. All in all about a 15 hour day between driving and visiting. Then on sunday I unloaded the truck and put the parts in a nice neat pile in the garage waiting for time and money.

We were camping all weekend just south of Gilroy, and we spent Sunday afternoon walking around San Juan Bautista. Saw a couple streetrods, a couple (hundred) bikes and a bunch of old buildings including the mission. Here are a few pics that I took...

Went to the Dallas Autorama. Looked all around the show, eyeballed the Honeys they were using to attract attention to their products and scoped out the cars and what-not. Also hung out with OldVolks and Fonzy and some Young-Uns. Had a Large Time.

so you know whats depressing? I was lookin on mooreparts.com today and realized that my horrific looking attempt at a firewall cost me more than a nice pre made firewall that actually will fit, be level and seal up good....I guess the welding experience was worth it...

Unhappy Re: What did you do yesterday...

I spent Yesterday at Alon Oil Refinery here in Big Spring Texas. Some of you may have heard we had a Explosion. They had a propoline leak that pretty well blew up the plant. I was at home having Breakfast with my wife when we heard & felt the explosion. My wife asked "What was that?" I told her it was Cosden (now Alon), I'd better go.
At station #1 we put together relief crews & loaded up extra SCBA's & bottles. I ended up spending all day there, didn't have much time for relief. We had Units in from all over, including some guys I trained years ago. Overall we had a good operation, no lives lost, and only a few injuries.
I'm on duty now & we're still cleaning up, getting things back to Normal. My bunker gear is being Decontaminated, So I'm using a loaner set.
I hope they will rebuild this Refinery, our small town really needs it's income & Jobs. Allot of my friends work there, and my brother works at the adjoining Carbon Black plant, that is dependent on Alon for it's material.
So I didn't get anything done on the Volksrod.

Spent the other day welding a 2" narrowed beam together with adjusters for a fellow dubber. Re-installed it in the car, bolted up steering and spindles so the car would be moveable. Was gonna finish the tie rods today, so the pidgeon toed look would go away, but that didn't work out.

Instead-
Gave my harley to the repo man, as I needed to eat more than ride for $600.00 a month...

sigh....

Shoveled snow after getting home from work.

Fortunatly my neighbor came over hand helped my out with his snow blower.

I would have used my snow blower if I hadn't destroyed the worm gear again. I had just replaced it a few weeks ago but tried to help out another neighbor and ran over a piece of curb that the plows kicked up. Busted a shearpin AND the worm gear.

FUCK I HATE WINTER!!!

That fucking sucks Tim! We have been fortunate to have temps into the 40's lately, so most of our snow in the valley is gone. We still have plenty in the hills tho.

I finally got some time back out in the garage last night. So I decided to try and whip up a bracket for my taillights. I'm not liking what I came up with. Trying to mount '39 Chev taillights and make them look right is becoming quite the challenge.

Well, here ya go. This is what I'm trying to come up with. A place and a way to mount these so they are straight. I've seen some that come off the car at an angle and aren't straight to the side of the car.

Not sure if that was right where you wanted to mount the lights but just looking at those pictures it seems like you might be able to mount the lights up on the body and have them sit pretty straight. You could probably just use some wedge shaped shims to get it just right. Just an idea .

Ya, I've looked at that spot. It just seems a little high for me. I may end up trying it halfway between where you have it and where I have it now. Thanks for the input.

Just an idea.

1) Just trace the rubber gasket on the back of your light housing and cut 2 pieces out of steel.

2) weld the wide end together.

3) cut a wedge out of steel and weld everything together.

Kind of like this.

The kid sanded the car... got both sides done before the vibration got to him... not bad for a 9 year old.

went up to home depot and got the majority of the lumber to get the front porch deck started!!!! $400, . then this morning, figuring to put the posts in,,, he finds he has over figured the dimensions So now instead of the 32' x 8 deck, he has it running 8' along 3/4 of the front of the house we'll need more decking but we have to get the rest of what we originaly planned, truck was pushing load limit as it was

oh and I have a new vac! After burning the roller heads out of 2 others and fighting the static with those bagless plastic cyclone models, I went with an old name, Hoover bagger, And I have a happy house again. I was told of the Dyson with the animals we have indoors, but I can't see spending $500 for a vac that will be used a couple years, til the carpet in the living room gets ripped out and wood flooring goes in! I'd rather sweep than vac!
Yeah I know, guys aint into vaccuming/housework~

But we're getting a front deck! TEN YEARS later!!!! :danncing:
