Looking for my old car
Help me find my car! Sold it to a gentleman in Missouri, he won the rat rod class at Dragon nationals in 2016 or 17.
Help me find it!
Thanks,
Vrshack

Re: Looking for my old car
Why'd you sell it? And of course the next thought... build another one... I always liked that little dude. I have a shot of it saved on my phone even...
Did you just flip the front beam around on that or some other form of front extension? I don't guess I got to know much about it before never hearing about it again...

Re: Looking for my old car
I didn't know you had sold it. I never saw how the steering was set up on yours. I have over 50,000 miles on my "Flipped style beam" now and still doing great.

I sold it to fund a patent and a trade show. I think I'm too old to build another! I flipped and raised the beam

What is this “too old” you speak of?

Re: Looking for my old car
I have acquired my VR back! She was delivered to me at 3 am yesterday...for a measly 6400...pretty much the same since we parted ways, only a few things to tidy up before we turn it up.

Not much changed on it but he did lose my heated leather Mercedes seats...it had a built up car IRS..now a stock car irs is in its place. I think im going to blow it apart so I can go through it.
Im really fighting the urge to do some radical drive train...I love the idea of an automatic 6 or 8 mid engine...
Share some ideas with me...

Re: Looking for my old car
A mid-V8 a front wheel drive setup mounted in the rear seems like a hot setup. A looong time ago I fit the 455 Olds Toranado drivetrain in the back of a ‘66 Corvair. With a project too many, a house needing work and long hours at a demanding job, I sold it without getting it actually running. But it would have been fun.
A V8 in your great looking bug will be really cool!

Re: Looking for my old car
Being a Toyota nut, I've been looking into MR2 Spyder back halves to adapt to one I have out back... I Have also considered oddities similar to the "Das Speedster" as well, except with a different maker 4 cylinder inline mid as well... I like the old 2TC Toyota engines due to their Hemi design... STRONG engines. I had a '79 Corolla with a 2TC in it and it would SCREAM for a 4 door mini car... Just have to work out the Transmission situation to fit it comfortably as a mid engine application, but it would work as a front engine as well, in tribute to the "Das Speedster" design. It'd have to be a full frame design situation.

Back when I sold it, I cut out to make room for a 2.5 subbie and decided that I found a way to me the subbie auto trans to work in a mid engine configuration while shortening it 7 inches...I may go back down that path...

Re: Looking for my old car
There are front wheel drive only Subaru configurations out there. I think their older models, though. Maybe a trans shop can remove the rear drive, like they do with the manuals.
We just sold our bought new 02’ dodge caravan. I always thought that the V6 engine and trans would be a cool swap. It ran great, gave few problems and move the van with ease. I actually thought to be the odd ball out there and put one in a fiero.

It’s always been my belief that in the area of ‘car tinkering, ‘odd ball’ is always a good thing!

Re: Looking for my old car
At a stop at our local market four people came over to check out the Single Cab. A young woman had parked her 80’s Vanagon nearby and is planning on swapping in an Audi engine. An engine adapter is being fabricated and she’s going to be doing the work herself. Two guys had VW bugs at home and the third used to drive a ‘64 bus. It’s fun meeting like this. We hung out for about a half hour. This is the first time I’ve heard about an Audi swap with a VW tranny.
