I don't know what it is off of, but it fits the look I am going for. Will likely influence a bunch of the other trim on the car....like bumpers and such.

What do you think?
Does that sticker on the trunk say Ben Fresch..Erie, PA?
That is an old dealer ship from my home town. I havent seen that name in ions. Ok....Decades. HEHEHHE It brought back some memories of going to the delaer ship and checking out the brand new dubs when I was a young toddler.

Yes, it does. I first bought the car in 1991 in Erie, PA from the original owner. Small world.

Well, I made some more progress on the sled this weekend. I got a bunch of the left hand rear fender rebuilt. I still need to cut out the fender vents and fill them solid. I also have to finish the rest of the mounting flange for the fender.

I also got the rear deck lid frame cut and in position. I still have to make the transition pieces between the body and the decklid frame. And of course, I need to duplicate all the fender work on the right side. Check out the pics.

JK,

I like those old VW dealer stickes; any way to save it? Probably wouldn't look right on a custom but hate to see it get scaped off.

Of course there is a way. I will just cut it out with my little airsaw and then patch the panel.

What's it worth to ya? PM me if you really would like it. I am willing to cut it out.

I spent some time on the Sled last night. Nothing to show really from last time, but small steps. I continued working on the small filler pieces for the reshaped rear fender, I put some tires back on it and got it on the ground so I can roll it around, I tacked the rear decklid frame in place, (lots more patching together there), and started fiddling with the new air intake below the rear window. Small steps but progress.

I am considering welding the rear fenders in place. Will make the new interface to the new rear body much easier to fab. Thoughts?

If all the other cars on the planet are, then why not. Plus a smoother look without the beading.

john, how about using bay bus air intakes under the rear window for the air supply?

I already know what I want to do for the air intakes. The concept is posted somewhere in this thread.

Found it.....This is the concept for the air intake....

So, I made some more progress tonight and took some pictures....

These are the filler panels I worked on yesterday.

and today I left work a little early and worked on the rear decklid. I liked someones suggestion of a recessed or frenched license plate spot on the decklid, so....

I cout out the recessed area on an old Squareback liftgate and sectioned it to the right width to match up with the license plate light trim piece that I have.

I cut a matching hole in the decklid and got it all tacked in place. I am liking the results.

The light housing ends up a little proud of the main surface of the decklid. I plan to add a small raised bump to match the contour of the housing and then fade it into the lid. Should end up looking sweet.

I really like the recessed tag mod w/the lights. I ike the air vents too, but I think a matching set of HUGE ASS 50's style trims on the fenders to compliment it may bring it all together

I love seeing progress on this car. Without a doubt, this car is destined to be the coolest Kustom type 3 ever built. The inner filler panels for the rear fenders are coming along perfectly
