i may have missed it... are there going to be side windows? if so how are you going to do it with the windshield further forward?

For the time being there will be no side glass. I am welding the tops of the doors shut and since I didn't widen the roof, but instead am going to roll the body out to meet it, the glass runs would need to be curved and thus the glass curved also.
I will be making some clear vinyl snap-in storm curtains or something like that just in case of really bad weather or if I have to leave it overnight in bad weather.
I think you could still do side glass with teh windshield moved forward. It would just require a small fixed pane on the body or an oversized framed piece the door that hangs out front. I am sure the door would still swing. Of course not all of the glass could be roll-down.

an interesting fix for the rear quarter windows is what they did on the hirohata mercury. its just a cut peice of plexi that slides into a slight groove in the opening with a rubber sash attached to the forward edge where it seals to the door glass. could even do a nice forward curve from bottom to top...? but this could be dupolicated in the doors as well... open the door, slide in the rear glass, stick the door glass into a groove in the top of the door, then close it. a little chrome around the edges would definitely complete the look,,,,
still think the ass needs to be longer:) sans continental kit, an extended bumper with a rolled panel into the body might do the trick...

While I was at the VW Show in Ypsi on Sunday, I noticed a red t3 KG up toward the front...what I noticed about it was the back window...It's kind squared off where the sides go downto the c pillar...I don't really now how to explain it, but you'd have to see it...maybe that would be an idea for the back window on the 'sled.
BTW, Sophy's hot
I was going to introduce myself, but I'm a newbie and it looked like you were striping something...
Shame the swap meet sucked. That's the main reason I went.

Maybe, but while I am hardly a purist, I think I will leave any good Type 34 glass to that crowd. Talk about hard to find parts.

Thanks for all the compliments and suggestions from everyone. I am really having fun with this project. Still shooting to have it rolling by mid-August for the Woodward Dream Cruise.

I'll keep an eye out for it then...I usually work that day. I work near 11 and woodward.
I imagine it'll be hard to miss :)
I could never stripe and talk...Install car stereos/alarms, tho, no problem ;)

No pictures today, but I did manage to spend a bunch of time and on the Lead Sled. I got the roof rails all finished up and the windshield frame just about fully welded. I should be able to weld the roof back on tomorrow afternoon.
I will take some pictures of the progress tomorrow.

No real progress as I had planned. Got way too hot and humid here the last few days to get out there and work on the car, but....
I was inspired by Maxx's Type 3 paint schemes in another thread and decided I needed to do one of the Lead Sled. Here is the basic plan for now....
and some some variations...
Opinions???....I am sure you each have one or more.

I was about to say that you all are fucking retarted and blind!
All the images were of the sled in black! Then I checked my monator, and the brightness was all the way down. After adjustment...
I like #4 .

I've been thinking about this, and I'm actually thinking that if you didn't send the rear bumper trim so far forward, then the last one would kick ass. As it is now (to me) the paint line it to short. It doesn't "flow" like the trim and such. And the top two, well they are good looking also, but the two tones would catch my eye faster and hole it longer than the top ones would. Just my $.02

I like #2, in a sweet candy apple red It just looks alot better in one solid color to me, especially with the bumpers.

Something like this...
How about satin white on the main body and green or blue metalflake on the roof and dash!
