Default O/T A Pair of '39's
Re:: value?

I have been offered a pair of '39's and am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on them.

First is a '39 Chrysler 2door coupe. All original including drivetrain and motor. It runs. Has all trim but missing some glass. No body damage, very straight. Probably 8 or 9 little areas that need rust repair. Been stored inside for over 20 years.

Second is a '39 Desoto 4 door coupe. Also all original, very straight - basically the same condition. Has NO interior though and doesn't run. Also missing most of the trim pieces.

The guy will only sell as a pair and the asking price is 9k. I think if I can get him to 7,500 for the pair it would be a great deal.

Opinions anyone?

Sounds high to me for project cars.

Pics if you can. Throw a 350/350 combo in the DeSoto, a basic interior and cruise it, or sell it and put the cash into the Chrysler.

4 door coupe? I'm not familiar with that model. I am familiar with the Airflow. I have a buddy who has an Air flow (39 or 40 model)... Not a coupe, but a special car, as it's right hand drive... I looked around on the interweb and couldn't locate anything with that model number directly... Got a pic? Love to see it.

I recommend rebuilding the old Straight 6 though. Awesome motors (They used the same basic motor and maybe even still do, for forklifts all the way up into the 1990's, so there's parts available everywhere.) The Chrysler sounds more fun, so I'd probably do like others... sell one to build or play with the other. I'd chop it and lower it... but you may want a gasser or a full-on restore... Sounds like fun vehicles anyway.

WELL DADgum,
Here I am trying to gather $200 for a $400 Bug with no engine, it has a clean title but I may have missed my opportunity, I'll find out either tomorrow morning or Monday morning, I just hope I can get half the money & the car

I had a similar kind of deal. A friend gave me an old Plymouth. Siezed engine, broken windows, rotted out interior, but solid metal and mostly straight body. I picked up an ugly but good running and driving Volare for $500. I used just about everything except the basic body. K member front suspension with disc brakes, rear end, 318 auto with a/c, power steering & tilt column,cooling sytem,the entire wiring harness,a lot of stuff from the dash, and power front bucket seats. Once the front end was sorted out (took about 3 days start to finish) the rest was pretty easy.Biggest problem was being a little crowded at the front of the body as the Plymouth was a lot narrower than the Volare. Sorry about the pictures. The only ones I could find were ones that Beth had played with in a photo program. I did get it sitting somewhat lower and centered the back wheels in the opening, before I sold it.

Thanks for the input everyone. I decided to pass on these for a few reasons - all good ones in my book, lol!

So, back to what I am already working on that is taking up way too much garage space as it is.

That sounds like a very good idea, I'm gonna try to get my floor space back in my garage/shop & buy 1 more old AC VW Beetle so I can make my lil truck, then I'll just maintain them all & spend more time trying to make money so I don't hafta put band aids on things & fix em right the 1st time
