well hello guys,
here we are again..
the start of my new Project..
i've been working on it since a couple of months but it's really taking of now..
here is the start..

after being of the streets for 20 years i think it's time to but it back on, but it's not going to be an easy job because the car went from hobbyist to wrecker to.. and not much is left..
when i bought it they said to me it was complete, and it was but they completed it with all kind of pieces from older types that does not match
So it actually has to be rebuild from scratch, and hey if we do it anyway why not make it something special, it is the only chance this car has to get back on the road..

So here is my goal;
To build the first STREETLEGAL VOLKSROD in Belgium..

(i've only seen 1 VROD in all my life and the second i see will be mine)

here is how far i'm so far..


this was the first pic i took to get an idea how it would look lower and without fenders, and i liked it
so the big problem is to get it streetlegal.. so the last months if been searching or bits and peaces of rules and laws and i'm printing out a piece of it now 133 pages of a language for the better "einsteins"..
so when that is all processed we can really get to work..

so far i've cleaned it out..

i've cleaned all the glue from the inside of the roof because i'm planning on painting it with a giant iron cross on it
(it's gonna make a hell lot of noise when it rains but who cares?)
when cleaning the body i came across a few nasty suprizes
somebody "welded" (read glued them on with a welder) some plates to cover some holes (nice work)
they f...ing come right of when i was cleaning the surface around them..



there is about a ton of polyester used on the side pannels

But hey the bottom of the car looks great

so now its all in the planning...

now let's talk colours..
here in Belgium the trend nowdays is flat black with red rims and whitewall tires or ratstyle with holes and dents..
there are real rats with real patina that's so cool
and wannabe rats who self sand down place to let them rust..
'cause i try to be different i was thinkin' this..
i dont know if they sell this in the USA but here it's called HAMMERITE
it's a paint to use on rust to seal or prevent it and normally used on metal fences and stuff kinda like makin' an ANTI RUST BUG.. or HammeROD...
i painted an bad fender to give an idea
what do you guys think?

It's Hammerite dark grey hammered..
i also did some rims and did the inside in the dark grey hammered

and i did the outside in dark blue hammered

and for a little test..

i think it'll come togheter nicely how 'bout you?

i'm planning on doing the outside grey, inside plates and inside of the roof dark blue dashboard and the rest of the structure inside grey and the bottom of the car blue with an big grey iron cross to suprize the guys from the car inspection..

so what do you guys think?

here is some stuff i've been working on..

i know drawing isnt my best skill..
but it's the idea that counts...
i transformed the "CAT" logo in a "ROD"logo..
as a CAT-technician i can lay my hands on the original CAT-paint and decals
so why not...

i'm still changing my mind like crap..
but hey i still can i've still got a long way to go...
i scored myself a welding station last weekend so i can finally start learning how to weld..
70 bucks and i still has wire and gas on it..
it's a small one but does it really needs to be that heavy to weld the body?

OK, been a while since the last update, the plans for the rod changed a little more then expected cause there is NO way to put it on the streets here (legally)
i did found some nasty ways, but they 're a bit to tricky (read illegal)

so if i'm gonna do it, i'm gonna do it my way, piece by piece..

but first to get my title papers and get a licenseplate it will still need to pass the small technical oldtimer inspection (in it's original condition)
so first a small resto en then

didn't took much pics of the work yet but it's body of now
just flipped the chassis to clean and paint the bottom and guess what.. al the previous paint chips of nice work you previous

gonna be a hell of a job now so it's now sideways i the (very small) garage...


so next update hopefully of a painted chassis...

seems like i forgot to update for a while..
so i took the chassis apart to clean it..


got some paint done..


and some specials


did some detailing and stuff but nothing fantastic..
top if the chassis soon to come when the temp goes back up..

btw had a little side project to keep me busy this winter..
made me a Vrod table..

still needs paint, plexiglass and led-lights..

well i guess it's time to update again..
got this done last summer but just noticed that i never posted the pics here..


still didn't had the time to paint that table

flipped the chassis and got that fine (and one of the last) genuine Tinbeater in the mail
which got painted the next day and mounted the day after that...

now it's the neverending wirebrush story to clean the topside of the chassis. the bottom was painted, the top was with a special protective product you normally use on the undercariage i guess the previous owner forgot to flip the chassis when he painted it or he was planning to run it upside down

havent gotten very far yet, had to quit cause a neighbour started bitchin'.. stupid weekendfolks, they can enjoy their weekendly silence the whole workweek when we are slavin' ourselves and then when we have a day off we can't make some noise??

Ok lot's of work have been done since my last post,
but i had a bit of a burnout afterworths.. (and not one of the fun smoky and smelly ones)

i pushed myself to get it "finished" (read rollin') for our annual Vankrally and afterworths needed to catch up with the rest of my life..

so here is what you've been missing..

fitted some new fuel lines, kicked in all new electrical wiring and mounted the engine..
not much pictures been taken due to the time pressure
but afterworths the magical moment of the marriage...

the first time a kind of Vrod look..





but then again to do some "stealth" testing and to get trough our vehicle controle i really need some fenders...

back fenders and taillights,


front fenders and headlights and it's alive !!


funny thing is, had the engine in store for 2 years and then mounted in the car for a couple of weeks (never spilled a drop), when i mounted the headlights it kinda looked at me, like it wanted to get to know me as his new boss..
the day after that i returned to the garage and found him "marking his spot" and then i knew it was ALIVE !!!

and so after altering and mounting some much needed stuff it was up to the Vehicle Control station...

With only 10 days to go before our event i rolled out top the tech center to get it checked out, it's all or nothing cause i need to get my insurance and license plates before the event and it takes about 5 days (and the don't work weekends) .
got there, pretty smooth ride, wich calmed me down a little to find a big line of waiting cars so i joined them.
i think in about 2 minutes about 5 to 10 people walked up to me and the car, complementing me, wishing me luck and started taking about the bugs they used to own or known...
then the control guy calls me in front of the whole row cause it's a minor oldtimercheckup, and there we go..


note; it's already lowered in the back cause i didn't want to do this job twice and it is stock hight in front cause lowered cars usually get the famous "red card"
so it looked quite like a gasser.
this leads to some controll-guy-humour..; damn this car is so high in front and low in the back ! which i reply "idunno it's al stock " and the second guy opens the rear decklid and answers " ow i see they've put the engine in the trunk, thats why..."
after some laughing and some checks of papers,brakes and steering i ride out to find my "GREEN" papers at the register !!!

so after a couple of days running around for insurance and licenseplates, and organizing the last bits for our meeting i got everything in order to drive it to the meet !!

got some other rims in the back to make it look a little decent..


and the day before the meet i mannaged to get the decals ready from our "new" club! Auto Moto Club Contich wich started out in 1911 !!! and died somewhere in the late 50ies
and is now ressurected 100 years after it started..

made some room for the exhaust


and the last few weeks i rebuild the engine and put on an awsome exhaust

hooked up some sweet taillights


made a bracket for them using the old piston pins that came out of the engine and and ran the wires through a showerhose... yep it's a 5bucks build with i think it looks sweet


so now it sits there waiting for some front end works so the fueltank can get back in and we can fire this puppy up
