Let's look at a 1935 ford brake drum & see if the surface is flat or if it has lumpys that match up & interlock with the back of the wheel.
BTW UTX where did you get a picture of the backside of a 35 wire wheel.

You paid $400 bucks for the adapters and then took them to another shop? Why wouldn't the guy you bought them from fix them?

The '35 drums have those "lumps" on the drum. That's what the rings are compensating for

Thanks Steve! Much appreciated.

Wheel adapters! My kingdom for a set of wheel adapters!

Does anybody have one they'd be willing to send as an example? I'll HAPPILY pay for shipping both ways & I'll slip you a 20 spot for beer! C'mon! You know you're thirsty!

Mmmmmm, beeeer.

This is the area where steve mentioned . but if you notice the lug hole has a good raised area to . so i'm not worried about that I'm just working on centering the wheel .

rostigbug i'm sure it does kick it out some , ( It does ) i sent the spacers out so i can't messure right now sorry .

I'm not sure he didn't get his from our vendor before they really started putting them out there but I thought Steve was the first to get those. I do remember him having them though when I bought my oval glass from him. I believe I almost bought them but couldn't afford it while I was going to school.

reprented with out permission from some hot rod magazine
35 Ford cars are unique: They register on five raised bosses cast into the hubs or drums just inboard of the wheel studs. They serve as part of the hub-contact area; the area immediately around the mounting holes will deform without them. In the best-case scenario, the wheels will constantly loosen; eventually, they will crack.!

Tim, if you have a full version of Adobe, you can open the PDF. & "save as jpg". But, I don't think that will work with just the viewer...

Thanks for posting that shorts!
This is the detail I worry about when ever I see some one asking about the vintage Ford wheels.
I am a real mechanic & I have liability issues to consider when ever I touch a customers car. i allways get fully informed(research) before making any modifications. these adaptors are just lug pattern adaptors & not fully informed about this small but important detail.

BTW I wonder what those old Fords weighed.
I bet the bug is so much lighter it might not matter even if the wheel is not properly bolted on.

BAD, VERY BAD BET. I would never make that bet. This is a huge safety issue. I wouldn't want one failing while I'm going down the freeway.

Always get the wheel to seat correctly.

What do you mean you can't figure out how to make the wheel seat correctly???? The rings that accomplish exactly that, have been posted 3 times on here.

You use those rings in conjunction with the flat drums or adapters you are bolting the '35 Ford wheels to....

??

My apologies to Steve and everybody else.
I am sitting here at my desk and I have never even seen these wheels (except in pictures)
If you guys are doing it & making it work then I need to STFU!

Well good news folks...

Been talking with Lenny over there at Motorsport Tech (thanks for the tip, Joe and Brian ) and they're joining up with us as our newest Coalition Vendor

I'll be entering their info tonight along with a new banner I made for them up top so folks can find them and finally get their wires bolted up to their volksrods once again.

Thanks again Joe and Brian for finding them... and bringing it to my attention that they'd be interested in joining the Coalition.

That's awesome Steve! I'm glad that somebody finally got it worked out with a new vendor.

Maybe that banner should be in big broad letters within the Too Lazy To Search section...

I'm sure somebody in the next batch of newbs will ask the question though...

Either, I didn't read this thread right. or I'm just old and don't get it.

Is this vender going to make the adapters work right or will I have to take these $400.00 adapters to a local machine shop and have more work don to make them Work?

Maybe someone who has all the required parts, needs to show an 'exploded view' of sorts.
Wires, rings, adapters, car.

Oh and AJ, this is already linked to the tech bin thread

Mike ,
I didn't know all this info prior to placing my order . So i'm having the ones i had made changed a bit .
With everyone involved they will be right the next time around .
I can't blame the vender it's not his fault .
