I have been looking at pics of engine compartments lately, don't ask me why (I don't even have a air cooled yet).

I have noticed several sweet ideas and am looking for more ideas.

My ride will have all powdercoated tins, in a color to offset the paint on the ride. I plan to paint the vehicle a flat color, but not black, maybe a purple or dark blue. I will have it striped if I can find someone to do it/or learn myself.

I am hoping to run wire wheels of a vintage nature, but who knows what will happen there.

More important to me, is that the engine compartment be clean and neat looking. Most of all, well thought out!

Let me see what you got?

it's not ours but a friend's. It's clean and simple. too much chrome for me, my engine is red tins, red doghouse and a chrome rear pan that goes around pulley, car is purple and silver outside, I'm going with the fire with in theme. Don't have a 'clean' pic of it's , but's it's just a normal compartment, so here's one ~

edit~ I do have one of mine, not a good one though, (it has a leak at the moment )

Here is the type IV in my 63 VW beetle....

Bit of shiny stuff, but tried to keep it fairly subtle (first attempt at flaming the shroud turned out pretty well).

Here's the engine in my '61. All I can say is YOU NEED A TURBO!!!

Not really clean and not in the car but here is the engine for "Skeletal Remains". I'm going with dual carbs and have another skull to go with it. The tin is now painted, I'm converting to a 36 doghouse shroud and now I'm just waiting on the carbs so I can put it back together.

[attachmentid=10302]Not the best or the worst out there. POR 15ed the engine compartment. Cut off the heater snouts on the shroud and welded plates over the holes. Just used regular red engine paint on the shroud and tins and so far no problems.

Here's one I think I found on the Las Vegas Club's site.

Clean and neat!

I like the looks and idea of a turbo, but I don't know enough about them to make one work. I do wonder what all it takes, and how relaible a turbo'ed VW would be?

Can anyone provide a lay out of a turbo set up in a different thread?

Anyone have a clue what the fans are that are used in this set up?

Would they cool the engine enough to make it a daily driver?

they're more for drag use but looks like that one'setup for street use with a modified alternator. I personally wouldn't use it for street use though. Having 2 big fans will rob you more HP then using the stock configuration as well

Is that yellow drag bug wearing the same squirrel cage setup as the one Glockster asked about?

The engine compartment on the yellow one is very busy to look at (I'll bet that bitch is fast though), but I think the squirrel cages you mentioned are in there.

My question is this, how can they suck more power awway from the motor, aren't they electric powered?

I don't really like having the oil cooler right there, but it seems to run cool enough for me.

It's a one-off VW engine that was built by Jim Feuling. Those are Feuling Harley-Davidson heads.
It's mounted in Dave Cormack's old project chassis in that picture.

Lots of info on it here:
