Anybody running one of these 4-PLAY intakes, made for the Edelbrock 4 barrel. I know they are for big cc engines. I was just interested how good it actually works, i am sure you have to jet them down a bit considering i ran a 600 on a hot 350. Any info would be good. Thanks.

Ah . . . the ol' Johnny's 4PLAY intake . . . .

There's always at least one for sale on TheSamba, they work as badly as the old Bug Spray units did.

WAY too much gas/air mixture being forced into too small of a runner. Only one piston sucks air at a time and that much mixture, waiting around in the narrow tubes, wants to de-atomize. When you start getting a big enough engine to handle that much fuel, you'll need two carbs to provide it in an truly efficient manner.

The manifold looks cool, but works like crap. Hit the "Performance/Engines" section of TheSamba Forums and ask around there. They've covered EVERY induction variation available and can answer every question that you have.

Luck,

TC

Holley makes a 390 cfm 4 barrel, which would be better, but still kinda large.

Has anyone tried splitting the plenum in half ?
That way each cylinder only "sees" 2 barrels, instead of 4.

that might work... cut a piece of aluminum that just fits into the big center casting and weld it in, effectively splitting it in half?

the Holley 390 works real good on corvairs! 6cyl 164cid!!! works ok on 1800 up toyotas never saw one work as well on any bug motor as dual webers or even a 32 zenith....
a few turbo guys are running 390's but thats a different game and even then a sidedraft is more responsive!

Does anyone have a picture of one of these things? I've searched here, the Samba, the STF, Google, and eBay... no luck. I found lots of links with people talking about them, but nothing pointing to who sells them or any pictures...

I own one, I can get you any pics you want, however My camera is in the Bahama's right now. So it will have to wait.
My resolution isn't very high so if someone else has one then they should perhaps they should step and and snap off some pics instead.

The gur at Kymco claims that the 500 will work great on VW motors provided something is done to them. Special tuning, custom parts, who knows. I Emailed him and HVW's about doing a tech article on it once before. Perhaps we should all Email them both and say we would like to see an article with maybe some sorta jetting charts..... That would make for an interesting article. Maybe shed some light on the subject. Can't imagine there isn't a way to make them work.

I knew a guy wo had one on a 1915 and it ran OK, could have run better, but it seemed more like a tuning thing. Ofcourse I am no race mechanic or anything so how would I know. I do know it was driveable and sounded fine when it drove off.

Weren't the Bug sprays 300 cfm ? I have one of those too.
