Hey all,
Saw the Ford axle conversion years back in a British VW magazine, and thought it was cool. Found this forum while looking at socallook's site.
I grew up in the Sacramento, Humboldt and Santa Rosa areas, all with huge VW communities and have loved the air cooled VW's since a young age.
Other things I am interested in are classic Mopars (Got the PrimerDuster for $900 when I was 15, almost 15 years ago. 408 stroker in the works now that I have a 360 magnum, and a 4 speed manual swap. I have also owned a '66 Dart Wagon I primered two-tone white and black, and a yellow '73 Challenger.
I am building my first chopper right now, the old school way, in the living room of my apartment for as close to free as possible. I have a NOS 70's AEE rigid frame for a Honda CB750 I will talk about in the bike thread. I have a pile of parts now that keeps growing (Thank you, eBay!)
As far as VW's go I either want a dune buggy or a fenderless, hoodless, maybe even topless bug. Engine showing, wheels showing.
I am a big fan of the "KISS" approach, anything on a car that doesn't make it faster is merely one more thing for me to fix, wire or have to work around, So I say, be it 2 wheels, 3 wheels or 4 wheels, CHOP IT!
