Re: My classic piece of rust ..
I got my hands on a sawzall (spelling?)
and I am in the process of making my cut marks on the bug.
This sonuva bitch is getting the hacking it's been long over due for
Tomorror the cutting will begin while all my neighbors are off at work - sunday is not a good day for the noise this shit will make.
I will post progress pictures in the next day or two.

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
I finished the major hacking~
now I need to scrape some green up to get me a beam extender. The beam on the car right now is fuct... as you can see the shock on the driver side is missing.. I also will be getting a new gas tank..
does anyone here feel that the beam I have posted below is worth saving and if so what tools do I need to take it apart so all that is left is the actual beam?

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
no real progress for the last week or so -
I have lupus and it has decided to flare up on me again so I have to put things on hold until I feel better again.

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
Ugh the flux core welder sucks ass, it just blows holes through thin gauge metal.. I even tried using the stitch weld technique with copper behind the metal and still its just not doing well on the metal... So I dunno I might have to buy a better welder that allows me to adjust "amperage" *(SP)
after tax return comes in I will be getting the beam extender
and all new rubber seals for the glass. I will also be picking up some new headlights, tailights, and mounting brackets for the lights plus new seatbelts.

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
Figured out that I could adjust the amperage issue on the welder with a light dimmer.. wife's lamp is one dimmer extentsion cord short .. HEHE Back to learning how to weld.

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
got my peep mirror in the mail today 8)
I know I wont be able to open my door with it on the rain drip but thats where Im leaving it for now until I make a cut in the door to put it on right.. the bracket is way too small to place it on the door, speedway motors says its universal.. maybe a universal headache is more like it..

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
not super exciting but I have to do something while I'm waiting for my extender...
I purchased new metal sections from wolfsburg west for the front wheel wells..
I also swapped out my old horn button for this newer one.

Re: My classic piece of rust ..
Today I painted & installed the trailing arms
tommorrow I will paint the anti-sway bar.. I need to get new sway bar clamps though before I can install it.
I have been thinking about chopping the shock towers off and welding a cap on top - I think the shock towers look stupid with the fenders off.. whadda you guys think?
we dont need no stinking shocks!
