Re: 3 wheeled contraptions and discussion
If anyone collects old copies of Mechanics Illustrated, back in the late sixties there was a guy building three and for wheelers that leaned into the turns. More recent (late eighties, I think) was a Diesel powered trike in Mother Earth News..I bought the info kit. But it used hydraulics and a servo motor.

I saw one of those the weekend before last in Milwaukee. It was at some Whinery place inside the Wisconson State fair. Very cool.

Re: 3 wheeled contraptions and discussion
That old 3 wheeler kinda stuck in my mind so I played with it a bit. Wish I had more time as I think it has a lot of potential but I shouldn't have spent what time I did

The CX500C has no frame under the engine, so the only connection between the VW front and the bike would have to be through the framehead area (my guess is through a subframe something like the red one shown below).
What say y'all?

Wouldn't it be like crackmonkeys front end just extended. Did he use Vw or was it someone on the samba?

I think his quad had frame in front of and under the engine . . . . that'd give several more good mounting points.

Re: 3 wheeled contraptions and discussion
The answer is yes.. Iv seen a few bikes with VW frontends... some were real crap witn no real thought on the final outcome.. I see it as certain conserns have to be considered.. The bike will need to be lowered...and maybe modify the exhust to do so..The seat area will need to be lower too..and maybe extend the rear and add a big fat tire for great looks and decent traction..The steering will have to be modified semi-go-kart style to work with handlebars..The tierods may even have to be on the front side of tubes so not to get in the way of the motorcycle frame.. Iv thought a reversed VW front end would work pretty well but maybe look too weird... My favorite reverse trike is the TRI-ROD.. check out their set up.. way cool...

There used to be one of those with VW power running around the streets of Gainesville, FL. I never could catch up to it but I saw it a few times.

Re: 3 wheeled contraptions and discussion
Ya know .. if you raked the forks hard and extended them ... you could definitely get awaqy with a bug hood on the front of that tuk-tuk ....
Arrrharrr Jim lad ... Where's me photoshop .... ?
(aside) .. actually it's not a tuk-tuk which IIRC were based on a 125cc Vespa .. it's a Lambro which was the Lambretta version of the Piaggio - You can tell by the front "fender" It's straight off a Lambretta LI 150 series 2 - I only know that because I had one when I was a Mod at 16 (the scooter not the 3 wheeler!!) ... now that's giving away my age eh ?? ...
The actual model of the one in the picture above is a Lambro 550 ... The last of the "rounded" ones and the first with twin headlights.
Here's the Lambro page ... enjoy
http://www.lambro.plus.com/
and here's the guy who owns that one ...

I'd probably go rearward from the bottom beam back to the main frame where the foot pegs mount with a sub frame for support. You're gonna need some triagulation to support the bike and allow any kind of steering to actually function with any sort of stability.
