Default Wana Introduce myself
Re:: New to the Volksrodder

Where do I start.
I been into V Dubs starting when I was a zit popping 14 year old. My Tio (Uncle) had a Manx and had my dad put it together. after lots of beer and cussing. My dad was a chevy man all the way. He was insulted to do the VW. After the first ride He saw the light. My sisters first car was a bug.

Now in life I'm at a point where ther is lots of time to do cars. The bigger than life plan is to Drop a ghia body on a 914 chassis. I have built tons of bugs, Ghias and about 6 914s. three of them V8 powerd one Built buick V6. A 69 camero 67, 64 Malabus. and some offroad Bike powerd rails.

Today My project is the spyder buggy. It's a baja ghia with ford 2.3. And working on buying a Volksrod style bug truck.

Thanks Mike

Heres something I'm kinda proud of. I built a turtle tank in the movie room. I wanted to buy a back ground and found a DIY site and Bob's your Uncle.

Tried starting the motor Monday, sounded like it wanted to but no rumble. I need to go over the carb. Vacked up all the dead leaves the pan looks to be in grate shape. Fab work on the bed is nice work. I think I'm gona switch the Baja ghias' adjustable front beam with the stock beam of the truck. Off to buy parts.

Well after getting it running I pulled the engine to clean it up It looked like it was running hot. I looked under and no cooling tin between the head and case. I bought a gasket kit. and the tin. Went ahead and broke it down to the short block A 004 feeler gauge would not fit on the rods Thats a good thing. The pry bar test on the crank no movement. Bottom end good. The cylinders still had light hone marks. heads had light soot on them. pistons cleand up with a rag diped in thinner. Buttoned it all back. and found the fan to be broken I thought it was just loose but it was broke.

Over and out.

The extention came in I bolted it on. Things are going a little slow. I took off the adjustable beam from the Ghia to use on the 288. Up date pics in the bucket.

Well been getting spme working time on the pile. I've adjusted the stance, put indroped spindles and adjustable front beam. Just been collecting parts little by little the bigest purchase was the front nose from Bugroadster.

Rear wheels from Hal

A what I think is a model T steering wheel

Parker donated a brake thingy.to hold the fluid.

Problems with the nose are it's long. I am shortening it by 2-3 feet. I'm kinda keeping in mind the perportions. Don't know if it's taboo to have the front grill shell stick out farther than the front wheels. That may be my only option. The other is to move the body back 7.5 inches. to even up the grill. I may have to do something like this because the wheels hit the sides when turnd hard. See how it wide then gets narrow quick.

So far this is where I'm at just tring to set itup. I'll build a frame to mount the nose so it's solid and the grill shell will bolt on.

Well, The pieces are going together better than I thought. I cut the side panels. Now piecing the hood back. The angles of the side panels were giving me greif. I cut down the quarter to get them to swing enough to fit flat. after cutting I noticed the whole windshield area would move a little. I'll need to make some supports.

Mocked up the front suports for the nose. I found the wheel will hit the sides during a hard turn. I'll need to reset the stops. I still haven't decited where to put the rad. I thought for sure I wanted it up front. but other ideas might have it go in back.

Heres a shot of the brace for the nose. The front will bolt to where the body bolted to the front beam. Then I'll cut and seal some plywood to make a trunk.

I think I'm going to set the rad here. way less plumbing to do. If there are cooling issues then it will go up front. The plan is to mount this here and then I'll do a Tonneau cover with a opening scoop to force air threw it.

not a big ole scoop just have it blend into the cover with this as the grill.
