I think Nick has a magazine article that shows how it's done. I had that issue and when I do mine that will be the example I follow

For mine, late model fenders, I cut as close as I could to where they bolt up and just welded in so strips to widen them.

Here's the article PJLOval is talking about.

Widening the fronts might be more tricky. If you widen all the 3 inches inside the headlights it will look odd, atleast in my opinion... Would look better if you would widen 1 inch on the inside and the other 1 inch on the outside of the headlight. Makes a lot more work but would look better. Or "simply widen the 3 inches on the inside and then cut out the headlight buckets and move them 1 inch in.

I guess I'm just blabbing again..

1.5 in strips on either side of the light? sounds like that's the route i may go when i widen the wifes fenders. so what are you gonna do about running boards?

Compound curves and with them being so wide when you stay with the natual curve the area that mounts to the body side is way up there. Not really a problem on my truck I don't think. I need to get back on them and see if it is going to work out. I have one about 1/2 through. Fiberglass would have been way easier but not nearly as strong and would eventually crack and I am trying to stay all metal on the truck.

i widened my front fenders 2 in. by using another set of fenders. i cut them 2 in. from the bolt flange (while bolted on the car.) and took another pair that had some bad rust in the flange but otherwise were solid. split them right along the edge where they break over to the flange. lined them up as close as i could, tacked in place, and started working my way from the rear to the front. had to make a few relief cuts in the headlight area, and hammer alot along the way, but they turned out pretty good. i smoothed the bumper holes and left the headlight buckets in the stock location. was MUCH easier that i was expecting.
