Well long story short, the 1st half belongs in the Today Sucks thread. I put in my 2 weeks Last Friday, showed up for my shift on Saturday, had to call off on Sunday and Monday because the furnance in my rental unit in Pittsburgh (6 hours away) went down. Came back for my shift Tuesday and got fired.....

Filed for unemployment and got conditionaly approved! Letter came today 1 week after filing. I didnt realise that they calculate benifits based on the 1st 4 of the last 5 quarters. I took a 40% pay cut to come work for my asshole boss down in Md. for the past 3 months, but I will be making more on the dole than I was working for him Gives me some time to enjoy the holidays with my family and look for a career rather than just another job. Needless to say there is alot of work to be done on the new house and on my projects. Just feels good to be secure for a little while

went to costco today to grab a couple pies for thursday. pulled in and the 1st spot by the door was open. then went in and got to the long lines full of people buying 32" tvs and more food than they will ever eat. as i get there a guy opens the register next to me and says "i'll take the next person". i look around and not one zombie is reacting. so i get in and out and am gone before anyone even knows what hit them. place was mobbed and i got in and out faster than ever. (can you tell i'm easily amused these days)

I finished off a deck project, the customer loved it, and their check cleared! Then I installed the carbs (for the third time, beaucoup crap in the carbs) on a neighbor's Suzuki and it fired right up and idled (!!). Once the bike was warmed up, it just took a little fiddling and it runs great.
I'm thinking about running down and buying a Lotto ticket and going three for three.

got to work today and one of the girls (actually is assigned to me, but rarely works in my department) waves to me as i'm coming in and is looking at me really wierd as i'm walking toward her. She gives me the I have good news and not so good news line. I really dont have the patience for games, so I just say, spill it. Well we have a thing called the race for safety, where for every given amount of time the store goes without a billable injury, any employee who has taken and passed with a score of 100% their monthly safety test, is eligible for a drawing that is usually a $25 or $50 gift card. Well we hit 180 days and it's a big win.......and my name got drawn......$250 WOO HOO. yes it is a giftcard to be used at the store, but the bad news was it takes about 6 weeks to process and get to me, so it will be after the 1st of the year. anyway, it is going toward the undercabinet microwave my wife has really wanted, so at least she will be happy......of course in order to install it, i have to rip out the cabinet over the stove and install a smaller one to fit the microwave under, and run an electrical circuit to it as well......damn....maybe this part should go under the this day sucks part.

It won't suck that bad. Have the fridge stocked with the fitting beverages, crank the radio and think how your wife will thank you!

Well I lucky in so many ways. I was rebuilding my Bosch 050 dizzy on my workbench. I never rebuilt one before. It was going good UNTIL a spring and a wash went flying!! Thats not good in my garage! I crawled on the floor and found 1. I was happy for that. But couldn't find the other. I put it all together and was putting my stuff away and I looked down and there was the 2nd part. WOW!!! I found them both. It might not meet much to anyone else but I have been looking for this dizzy for over a year and now I have a rebuilt one!!

Still working I actually have extra money. I paid off loans and stuff several months ago in anticipation of not getting called back to work for a while. This is the most comfortably I have lived in the past 5 yrs. I started saving up to buy a house (with a garage). I might not have alot of free time but I am loving every second of it

today was a good day.

got up and made food for the kids and myself.... hashbrown casarole and scrambled eggs. then we went to go get our tree at home depot (kindof a tradition to get it the weekend after thanksgiving and from home depot) while there i was grabbing some sand for later in the day..... and then i saw it. a snowblower. was 599.00... now 150.66!!! (i didnt get the .66 part but whatever) oh hell yeah!!!! i guess someone else bought it and returned it so they slashed the price.

anyway, came home put lights on the house and the tree in the stand. then went out and started to blast some engine tin. didnt finish it but that is ok. and now about to go decorate the tree.

have to do a lot in one day because i only have one day off a week for the last few weeks

the .66 is a price designation we use to indicate a green tag price reduced item in our system. it shows us right away that it was a reduced price item.

after months and months of parts collecting and saving my pennies..literally...i had everything i needed to upgrade or fix my 67 f100. new intake, carb, msd coil, msd box, fuel pump, fuel lines, filter, ...lots of stuff. anyway, test wired the ignition up, sprayed some starter fluid down the pipe and hit the key VRROOOM! best feeling in the world. now i just need to solder in the connection for the box and fix a few leaks and its back to driving. at least until i get the new floor pans in, then its tear apart the cab time. sigh.

after being out of work since may, i finally got a job offer yesterday. the pay sucks but he's going to bring me on part time so i can get trained and still supplement my income with unemployment. seems like a really cool place to work, and the boss is pretty flexible (he already told me i could work longer days early in the week and get out early on friday to go racing). just waiting to find out when my start date is. :)

I've been working as a 'freelance carpenter' for almost fifteen years and though it's been slow lately I'm doing okay. A buddy has a body shop and he and his son do first class work on restorations and such, but it's been slow too. They had a dead-in-the-water '33 Chevy 1-1/2 ton resto rod project because the owner wanted a modern straight axle (for disc brakes instead of mechanical drums) the frames are way different, and being more body work types than mechanical specialists, they couldn't come up with a soultion.
I modified on 'spec' a `57 front axle so it would bolt in and appear stock. We painted it, mounted it under a spare frame, they took pictures and took 'em to the owner. He loved it and the project is back up and running. Last week we went through the rear spring mounts, swapped in a new cross member and cleaned up a old steering box and built a quckie drag link to make the bare frame a roller. The body work has been completed for almost a year and now all three of us are working on this. Bottom line: Though it's just part time I'm doing something that is actually fun and getting paid too!

The wife told her parents that she wants the '64 1/2 Mustang. I didn't say anything to her except that I wanted to put new frame rails in and she said she wanted it. I say whatever and that she had to ask/told her parents since its theirs. I'm not a fan of mustangs but she likes them. She said she wants a rain car to go to shows in. How do you say no to that? Man I love my wife, plus she puts up with me too!!! LOL...

So I take it the job is with a team only committed to do Indy and probably the oval races leading up to the 500? Good luck and congrats on getting back in the game. I was more of a CART guy, but I did follow the IRL to get my fix of ovals when ccws dropped them during the split.
