I feel your pain - my motor is in the driveway behind the car, while I bum rides to work and wait for UPS to get around to delivering parts from the left coast.

well... the car made it through the day alive haha. my commute is around 45-50 miles there and back. had it all together just in time to leave for work.

anyway. to add insult to injury. in the process of putting everything back together... just my luck. i found that BOTH. of my manifolds for my kadrons were cracked (I HATE EMPI) around the flange. one was so bad the tab broke off into pieces... a little fudging here, big washer there. and tada.... it sealed good enough to run, so i said f*ck it and drove off to work. luckily enough. thursday is my friday, so i have the day off tomorrow, meaning the carbs are coming back off. and im taking them to my machinist buddy to have them welded up/resurfaced/and redrilled all for the small fee of a carls jr. western bacon cheeseburger.. ah its nice to have friends.

Been driving my Volksrod to work a few days a week..... and....... loving it My commute is only 8.25 miles each way but I have a big ass grin on my face and get at least 1 every day I drive it. It gets as much positive response as my '63 T-bird.

Daily life of a vw owner.
Every time I drive one of ours, I notice something he doesn't.
Last time I mentioned a lil tweaking was needed he flew off about not screwing with them anymore, so now? I don't bother saying anything, just turn up the radio and ignore it, when the damn things break down somewhere? I have a cell

vws, = adventure~

I drove my "rusted to perfection" Ghia as a total daily driver for more than seven years. The bumpers fell off on the way back from the Litchfield show, the shocks blew through the front beam and took most of that with them on the way home from the Candy Factory show, the fire extinguisher exploded and covered us both (and everything else) in white while in the passing lane coming home from that same show, the motor fell out at the trans mounts, rear deck lid came off, clock caught fire, fuel pump failed a mile from Terryville show (Thanks Dan ! ! ! ! !), and it still got me everywhere that I wanted to go and hauled everything from drum-to-drum transaxles to extra engines home again.

Seven years, all year long, my only car, and it was a pleasurable adventure every time I pushed the started button. I only sold it when the MasterSeries repairs began to fail and I had more air than hair holding the car together.

Hopefully, I'll be able to park the Mustang and drive the Fiat this Summer. I miss the sound of the VW engine . . . and especially the smells.

Oh, and the adventure of backing out of the driveway and not knowing how/when/if I'll return without a tale to tell.

NOT COOL! You need to learn how to fix them!

It's just not fair you get all the pleasure of driving them and then make someone else fix it!

No wonder he flies off the handle!

yeah, thats how this thing started, just a pile of parts i collected which morphed into a daily driver, just wish i knew what i was doing the first time haha. i feel bad i havent been posting lately to show the work ive been doing to it. but its coming along, its hard to build up a daily driver and keep it in running condition. the best way to go is just to build it up once, then drive the piss out of it.

I'm working on a dily driver. Once I get a good solid motor in her.. I'm gonna strip the inside clean the rust off primer paint, and have a buddy of mine put sound deading all over it. It rains a lot out here.. so driving a a tin pop can you can really hear everything... But I'll fix that...

phhhhttt. who needs sound deadener when youve got sixty horses of fury sitting behind you haha. ive actually been driving around with no rear windows. no front windows. no speedo, no fuel gauge no glovebox, litterally, just brakes, lights, and an engine thats all i need at this point. im not kidding when i say ive got the car gutted. its all in the name of progress though. been working on getting a paintjob done on it, gotta pull the body off to replace the seal and mock up my home brewed kafer-brace. but it is a bitch to drive on 30 degree mornings when its raining, a good leather jacket is a must have.

and Kattadragon, sound deadener is a good idea for a daily driver, theres an add floating around on the site somewhere of some stuff that seems pretty good for the price. best advice i can give you though for the rainy climate, make sure ALL of your seals are in place and in good condition, and any unnecessary holes are covered or filled in. my car leaks like a siv in the rain and it sucks.

I don't drive mine everyday, but almost. This morning I got off the exit for work with no brakes. The last two miles were interesting to say the least. It looks like a wheel cylinder went out good thing I have one at home.

i know that feeling, had my master cylinder go out as i was pulling into work one day. it wasnt pretty. i somehow baja'd over a curb aand off the other side. bent the shit out of my bottom adjuster on my beam, and messed up my exhaust pretty good too.

I've owned 45 bugs and 16 other assorted VWs. Of all the air-cooled (about 15 daily-drivers) I think I've had three with working wipers. Rain-X is your friend.

I wish they had had rain x back in the 80's. I drove my 74 with a winter coat, boots and a pile of orphan tube socks as a defroster. I scraped more frost off the inside of the windscreen than i ever did on the outside.
