Default Chopped Top Glass

I know the subject comes up here once in a while about getting glass cut for chopped tops and I stumbled onto this site and I thought I'd pass it on. They do have an inventory list but, Volkswagen isn't listed. It might be worth a call if you are needing glass cut.

i have a guy locally that cuts windshields, but that looks like a good operation. It would at least be nice to know that you had a source of exact replacement glass for your custom once they set you up in their computers. with the luck I have with windshields, that would probably be a good investment having them do the first windshield.

I wonder if they do tempered glass?

The site mentions they do tempered... THAT would be great... a chopped, tempered, CURVED rear glass...

What about water-jetting or sandblasting??

I haven't tried it yet but why couldn't you tape off a narrow line and keep at it with the sand blaster from both sides until it breaks through.

Am told this will work for the rear glass as well. When you get to the film in the middle of the rear glass, flip it over and blast from the other side until you get to film again. then cut with a knife.

EDIT: After reading the Chopped windshield issues thread it looks like this has been done successfully to the front, but I am still wondering about the back.

Also have not heard anybody with experience on waterjet.

Deadlines. I love them. Especially that whooshing sound as they pass by.

I cut down a 63 Ford truck backglass with a sandblaster and an angle grinder with a continous rim diamond wheel with a strip of aluminum sheet and half a roll of duct tape to keep the line, working only from one side.

Tempered Glass is manufactured with stresses in it, so it will shatter.

The typical glass cutting methods create stresses,
which are enough to shatter Tempered Glass.

Annealing is possible in theory, but not practical in practice.
