Default Garage Side Door Awning Project

I thought I had listed this here before as i put this up about 3 months ago, but could not find it. Sorry if this is a repeat.

On my detached garage I built an awning cover using the hood and grille from the 86 Jaguar donor. The Jag was used for the front and rear suspension and even the drivetrain (since it was already swapped to a SBC) that went into my 53 GMC pickup project.

I had the hood left over, and decided to use it for the awning - the price was can't be beat free. Only cost was a 10 ft piece of 1/2 inch black pipe, lag bolts and some labor to weld some brackets onto the pipe. I already had the piece of 4x6.

Pictures are basically self-explanatory. I tested it by hanging off the end. Holds me up so it can withstand any snow or wind load no problem. I am getting a 12v power suppy and going to hook up the headlights to a security motion sensor light.

This idea may not work so good for a VW hood

My detached garage is lower than the house by about 5 ft. I also zoomed in and cropped the picture to show just the hood on the pic where it looks like i was up on a ladder.

Hmmmm,
Nice idea, now I'm gonna use it

I have a very large sized hood from a 93 Cadillac Sedan Deville (I keep hoods, deck lids, and any other semi flat pieces of sheet metal to use rather than buying new)

Anyhow I think I have a new idea for the Caddy hood (thank you very much), I think I'm a do the same thing as you did, mount it over my side entrance door like that. It doesn't have the headlights in the hood like yours, but I have been wanting to install a few motion detector lights all around my garage that when they turn on it will light up the darkness as if it were day light

Anyone feel free to use the idea. If you have a hood or trunk lid that is flat, put it to use!
