71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
Re:: School me on some Volkrod buildin'!
Sup yall, I am looking around the site for as much info as I can find but I figured that I would start a thread on here so I could post some pics, and so people could share some do's and don'ts of Volksroding with me along the way, maybe save me some head scratching. I am new to VW's but not new to customizing cars. So far it is being VERY cooperative. I can chop, weld, heat, beat, (Cuss, throw shit...) and really like to do things right the first time, just need some of yall's wisdom. I am going to add more pics tomarrow but here are a few. Thanks in advance for any and all help! P.S. don't evryone go ripping off my Yellow rims all at once now Thanks, Steve

Looks like a nice base to start with Steve.
Are you planning on going fenderless?
To get that front end out there Dbug is making an
adapter to switch your Super suspension to Ball joint.
That way you can do away with your Strut towers.

Yup fenders and skirt are going to go! Gona run some wide ones on the back with taillights off of a 32 Ford frenched in. I am gona buy new running boards and run them on the wrong side so they will taper from wide at the back to narrow at the front. Hey I have been wondering, when I get my front wheels were I want them so I can see where I might want to carve this thing. If I make a template that covers all the crap that's sticking out messing up the body line, then cut the SAME shape, out of the SAME spot on both sides can I just use them on the opposite side to fill each others holes so that all the parts that were sticking out are now sticking in, or will they hit something inside? Has anyone tried this yet? Did it work? I would like to go forward with my front wheels 6-8 inches, drop the front 4 inches and narrow my front wheel base by 4 inches. I would still like front suspension of some kind, and I want it to be bulletproof even before I throw I nice fat big rig weld on there! What is the least amount of parts that will do this job well? And yeah, any parts I can get from people on this forum would be better so we can keep the cash flowing in the same circles.

Re: 71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
Suuup, been wrenching on the Beetle, took a break for a Tetanus shot and to It is starting to look like something OTHER then what a gay hippie would drive! What do you guys (and gals) think, whole pan, or patch? And Mickey the Mastiff keeps all my tools right where I left them....good boy! The front trunk floor is SPOTLESS do I HAVE to cut it out to extend the beam or does that just make it easier?

It's a Super, you don't have a beam.
Dbug is the man you need to talk to,
about altering the wheelbase on a Super.
And search for threads on extended wheel base Supers.

Re: 71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
No shit!? Freakin' sucks being a newbie to VW's! I am used to half way knowin' what I am doing. Soooo, What do I need to do to stretch a Super?.....The suspense is killing me! I have been reading up on the site about ball joint VS Link pin, Center steer Vs side steer, How anything over 8 inch you have to cut the hood or relocate the steering, Bracing, and now I still don't know squat! Please enlighten me. BTW unk those pewter eye in the sky's are AWESOME I will be getting two of the big ones soon! Just got off the phone with Doug Dbug and he has enlightened me as to what parts I need to do a super. $350 for the adapter I need and then all the usual stuff. He said that not many people Volksrod the Super which is good news....it means that I wont wind up parking next to one just like it....EVER. Go custom rides! Well I just got this bad ass rust wheel, time to go huff some more rust!

Re: 71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
How do I get the front apron off? It looks like some tabs on the side that either fold over and or are spot welded, hard to tell as it is kinda rusted. I think I can get my air chisel under there. What is the main structural thing on the front that I DO NOT want to mess with? Thanks, Steve

Re: 71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
Your probably the third guy, to do an altered wheelbase Super,
so it will be up to you to figure shit out and document it for future generations of newbies. The future of civilization, depends on you.
So when the next idiot asks the same questions,
there will be info available, when we tell him to SEARCH.

Take your skirt off and cut somethin'!
Well I got all the trim off, except the hood, that's next. Took out the windshield, and air chiseled and sawzalled the skirt off. Here are some update pictures. I let JR. (my tool and beer chaser) work a few of the air tools, he was thrilled! He can't believe that I "cut my car" Every time you lay in to a 1302 Beetle wide open with a sawzall.....somewhere.......a purist cry's Hey who makes the THICKEST replacement floor pans for my ride?

Re: 71 Super Vert, Bout to get a new lease on life!
MY BAD, I just remembered that all of these updates and pictures need to go on my intro (journal) and then just do Q&A on this one. Soooo, who makes the thickest pans for these old Beetles as these have already been patched SEVERAL times and only ONE of those times looks like it is worth a shit!
