Actualy brother..... Ian Russel is the builder behind it. He is a master fabricator in 4 different customz documentrys, and was also one of the guys from the first season of car warriors.... great at rat rods and vintage customs and his first car in highschool was a bug. He has worked on many volkswagens and in an episode of car warriors he was the madman behind this.

He did a center steering, and screwed that up a bit... but still looks sweet. Dude is a madman, check out his personal cars when you can. I'm also very sure he knows the term Volksrod as he attends more then 40 hotrod/ratrod shows a year.

Am I the only one that doesn't see any pictures?

This thread is worthless without pictures.

And that mag is pretty much invisible in searches. They don't give up anything!

That red one looks pretty cool though
I don't watch those kind of shows much, too much drama stress.

Ian Russel is a riot. His ideas are way out there and he has way too much fun.lol. I love his creativity and over the top craziness. He is a metalmaster fabricator.

Alright, scanned in at 600 DPI, there was no color in the mag, so... you get boreing too, or you can print them out and let your kids color them as they make "woosh" sounds with the crayons. 5 pages and I left them large so they are easily readable. If they get too big(for the noobs)when you click on them, right click and "Save as" then view them on your on PC.

Enjoy.

Rebel Rodz is the magazine that taught me an important lesson...

If it comes in a plastic bag and it's not porn, they probably just don't want you to know how shitty of a magazine it is until AFTER you pay for it.. :/

Looks like someone studied over Walt's build of the Rat Patrol with the Letherman Chop...

Wonder if they're ready for how much hate mail they'll get from the armchair hot rodders out there that hate VWs?

Oh, you mean the guys sitting in lawn chairs next to their 'bought rods' sniffing, "Well, I certainly wouldn't have one of those built for me." Hmm, where's the little icon peeling bills from a fat wallet?

I dont undertsnad why they hate our little VWs so much. Is it because we do a lot with so little or because at every hot rod show the crowd is huge around a Volksrod and its a jealousy thing?

You got me there..The local shows won't let me in, though my Single Cab runs a Ford V8, Ford truck Four speed and 9" rear end, oh and Ford dual leaf springs plus one radiator is a GMC item. Their 'no foriegn cars' mandate however, allows Chevy powered Angelias, Ford powered Sunbeams and there was one Chevy powered 914, and a Chevy powered Peugeot. The owners all look sort of nervous when you ask how they got in and change the subject.
I just don't go to these anymore. Meanwhile, on a positive side, I see more and more old VWs (bugs, Gias, Vans, a couple of Things and recently a slammed &primered squareback) on the road, and we exchange waves 'n grins. I'm gonna start looking for a local club.

I'm sure Ian(not unkl) has gotten somewhere on it, however most of his shows are right now, his favorite is Viva and that is a pre-63' and US tin... every year he makes a car for it and that probaly pushed his VW back in his list.... however I am usealy spying on his rides and when I do get more on this build I will post it up.

heres some of his best works.

While I understand most of the guys don't like to have them is because theres a big USA pride thing... people who run these shows are the same people that run clubs for "chevy only" or "studebaker only" I don't mind these guys. However these are the same ones that turn VW's away claiming it is not a vintage tin, then allow the guy behind you in that is running a fiberglass replica of a 32' ford with a chevy engine and the 1980's F150 donor parts with armani rims. I do like those replicars, but if they let him in, we might as well let everything in.

Side note, I did get turned away from a show last year that allowed some of the new 2010 mustangs and camero's in without hesitation. If I wanted to see those, they are on display at every dealership from one coast to the other.

I'm going to contact a friend that lives near Ian and see if he will do some spying for us poseing as a customer.

I love the 5 window but would hate to drive it, It doesn't look comfortable at all. That shoebox on the other hand

OT
I don't like either of the cars, but the topples one looked like a better driver and just all around just a good cruser (minus the gabillion watts of sound system)

Hey, I just picked a pretty clean '32 Ford grill insert form a buddy's scrap pile. I'm gonna hang it on the Single Cab's brush guard an tell the guys at the gates that she's a '32 COE (!).

I just lost an hour of my fab time over this. Thanks a lot guys! Just kidding of course... But it is heading for 90F+ here in Okieland so my "shop"(outdoors & gravel in my RV park you know) is going to be not so comfy today. Like it ever is.
Have had some progress and will post an update soon.
