Thanks V8Transporter, i can't wait to have her on the road. I think it'll be a while though. I have a few sets of wheels but think i'll go with the Model Y Ford Spokes with old style tires. Getting Tires over here will be tough.

I used motorbike tyres on the front. Model Y's will run 130x60 17 Super scooter rear tyres. You can get those at almost any tyre dealer. The rears are a lot more of a problem but if you take a lok at R&R Customs they almost always have Ford 16 inch wires for sale at about 45 quid each.

Sord of advice ... don't try to run the wires with VW Disks. The inner 'wheel' that holds the inner end of the spokes will foul the calipers. Well .. it did on mine anyway ...

I've plans to run old tread pattern tyres. High walls on the rear and smaller up front. I have a set of model Y and a pair of something similar only they are 19" wires so they might go on the rear.

My bug has drums all round so no calipers. :) Thanks for the advise anyway.

Beautiful! This is exactly what I want to do, but I may take a little more out of my top (maybe 5-6" chop). I recently bought a custom pan (finished/painted), so I don't want to screw with that and only a small portion of my passenger heater channel is rusted, so it's repairable.
Looking forward to seeing more from you, Spink!

My project just before I received it (new pics to come soon):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpl3k/s...7629775140468/
I haven't measured it yet, but I was told this was a 4" chop. Rear is incomplete and I need to remove most of the tack welds anyway.. might as well go lower! >:o)

Cheers Jipple28. I did think about a larger roof chop for a while but the stock rear view mirror is in the center of the windscreen so i though that would do me. Your bug is a great start for chopping.

Thanks for the support.

2. I love the project! nice chop!

Exactly. By the 2nd hour you should have started on a 3rd project after finishing the first, sandblasting the stripped 2nd project and have driven the first one 500 miles to sort all the bugs out of it....

Been busy jeff.

Thats the 3" Tranny lift almost done. Just got to lift the gear stick up and connect it all. I'm busting to see how low she'll be now tho.

The other challenge i have is this:

I have a few ideas on how to mount the cooling van. :) Suggestions are more than welcome.

and a mock up pic for the heck of it

Does anyone know what these are off? the are 4 stud and 19".

I don't know, but if you find out please let me know as that is just the kind of wheel I'm looking for for my phony Alfa Romeo/VW.

So............ thats my life changing experience done and brand new baby daughter brought into the world.

Back to to work shop! (inbetween changing nappys etc) :)

I was having HUGE!! problems removing the door hinge pins but finally gave in to an air powered chisel. Doors pins out and the progress continues.

i got all the body welding done today :) I smell a day of grinding ahead tomorrow.

Some questions i've been asking myself lately are:

To Bondo or show welds?
Wide standard Rims or Spokes?

Your views/comments are welcome. :)

Love the wheels!
Notch out the under-window and cram the fanshroud up there.
Trade the kid for a turbo setup!

See if you can find a puma shroud and use an external oil filter ...

That's a 4 inch trans raise and a 3 inch body channel so the rear scuttle is 7 inches nearer the engine than it is on a standard bug.

It just fits, but I do have to use low profile air cleaners for the road and when it goes to shows I have to turn the sugar scoops to point inwards so they avoid hitting the metalwork.

I was keeping this one secret but here goes. As i don't have access to many parts and so far i've only bought the wheels (and welding wire) that i might not even use. I made my own fan housing, to fit under the body. Let the critics roll.........
