Rgb's
Iv read on the samba if you want to use the rgb's on a bug gearbox you need to change the gear inside. Then on the KCW site they say you just bolt them on,( theres more to it than that i know ) and switch from side to side. You switch just to get the hand break cable in the rite position. I also talked to a guy at Larry's off road show last week who just put them on without changing anything. Now I'm not flipping them completely over, they will be going straight back 90 deg. From original position. The other guys are going 180deg, or factory position. I'm trying to get my wheels out and back a bit. I can't afford to buy 3x3 trailing arms so I'm looking at this as an option. Has anyone done this or have any expert advice on doing this type of set up?
Another question, is swing axle wider than the IRS? Or are they all fairly close to the same width. All I have to go by is my IRS, and the notch swing axle. Just trying to figure out what I should be looking for.
Thanks

Re: Rgb's
Franz from KCW switched them over to sealed bearings.

Yes that's rite, but he went completely upside down. He also didn't say anything about changing the ring gear. The samba guys say you need to change the ring gear or reverse it. But they are running the rgb's rite side up to gain lift in a baja.

Re: Rgb's
There are only 2 gears in the redux boxes, so you have to flip the ring gear.

He didn't do anything, but I forgot to ask if it's the entire bus box he used or if he just used the rgb's on a bug swing axle. I'm kicking myself also for not asking the rite questions. Must have been the sun( damm it's hot down there). But really it was one of those things, your driving away thinking about it and that's when you remember things you should have asked. I did however take a few pics of the set up.

Re: Rgb's
No problem flipping the ring gear on any manual VW box.
That is what the factory did on the early Buses and later on the 914.

Re: Rgb's
You may have seen this already, it's a very extensive thread on RGBs on the Samba. Mostly for offorad, but it mentions the mods you need etc. My understanding is they make the rear 3" or so wider per side, but I don't know that for sure.

One more post with a lot of good pics.
