can you identify this tool ?
My friend Marley came by with this today. Heavy iron about 6" diameter and resting on a leather doughnut. Seems to be a vise ? There are letters & numbers in the bottom of the notch that look like RIMANBROS 72B. An internet search turned up nothing useful. I looked for round vise and ball vise but didn't know what else to look for. Given the wide variety of folks here I'm hoping someone can give specific infofrmation as to its proper use.

Looks like a type of Engraver's Ball.
Perhaps for doing long guns.

Re: can you identify this tool ?
Leather donuts were commonly used,
way back, as a low cost base for an engraver's ball.
There may have been a movable jaw to go with it.
