Volksrod t-bucket aka 'hot tub'
After building my volksrod pickup, showthread: http://volksrods.com/forum/showthrea...220#post548220 I had parts left over. Eventually I started to build a second volksrod. The intention is rat look, wood, beetle steel, no paint, lots of rust, and many items from my own barn.
the beginning
The size from the cowl is from a T-bucket. For the sides, I have a roof of a beetle sawn in half

Re: Volksrod t-bucket aka 'hot tub'
After a few days, the building looks like this.
The name 'hot tub' comes from the bloated shape, it looks like a bath and a hotrod ... So hot tub ...

Great project always nice to see other people that don't play by the established rules.

Good idea and great thinking outside the box. The wood firewall will certainly get some double takes.

Just using the VW title & floorpan ?

Re: Volksrod t-bucket aka 'hot tub'
There are 2 ways ...
If it's before a certain age (I think 1964) you can re-register it as a dune buggy which means it can have any kind of body as long as it fits the right rules per chassis size/stiffening, engine, etc.
If it's newer and still registered as a beetle, you have to meet the design specifications as per the registration document ..
# of seats, # of doors, type of fuel, body type, # of wheels, track width, whelbase, auto/manual gearbox, yada yada ...
and the construction safety rules which include retaining the intrinsic stiffness of the shell and floor pans, not changing the method of steering, suspension, braking etc.
That's why we tend to keep the entire chassis and heater tubes completely stock and reduce the body length ... and why you don't see a lot of sedan to convertible or pickup conversions ... I believe Quint's pickup is registered as a buggy.

I'm sure there's a bunch of us thinking, dadgumit, why didn't I think of that, I payed $XXXX amount for my grill
I just gave away or scrapped a bunch of doors, door top window frames, or rear quarter window frames
I have the rear quarter window frames from an S10 Blazer that I'm gonna dig out & think outside the box

Reminds me of the same exsact look I got from useing the part of a 78 chevy nova above the headlights, then connecting them with the center 8 inches of the hood.... think it had about the same hump as this one did.
