Default Pre-A Outlaw replica.

I guess it is time for an old guy to start a new project here.. (Again...)

As some of you perhaps have seen, the Crewcab have left the building.

So, I guess it is in order to present the project that I got in the trade.

Here when I picked it up last saturday.

The trade have actually been worked on from november 2008 but we didn't get it through until now.. :)

The car is actually a -72 Superbeetle in title. Including modified Mcpherson frontsuspension and IRS. Full cage and fiberglass body molded from an original -54.

The molds and this first body were from info made in early 2000 something in Sweden and body was sold to Finland.

Most of the work was from what I know made here in Finland.
Including all required legal paperwork for making such a kitcar streetlegal in Finland...

Here's a few fresh pics of it for now. Quite a lot of work still to be done but also makes the project open for ideas to...

Basically it would fit physically, but not legally.. Due to very restricted Finnish laws....

Man, I was going to ask the same question. Since it is a bug in title, can you punch out a big, big VW based engine, or does it have to be a 1600?

Well, it has to be "the original 1600" (by enginecase)....

So a nice 2332 using an original case would be legal then? Would adding a turbo or supercharger be okay as well?

With that light little body, a good amount of horsepower and that stiff chassis, that'll be one hell of a fun driver!

Do they actually count the cylinders, or as a man of many talents, can you sort of disguise them?

The thing is that according to the rules engine displacement is allowed to increase 25% and engine hp with 20% from stock without a lot of legal paperwork with special permits. Also the engineweight cannot increase by more than 20%...

To go over the limits is not impossible but hard to get the permits without good motivations. Only motivation that could give permissions are that there are no new engines on the market.. Which would be a hughe lie... And there are a lot of VW-nut working in the inspections too...

In a bus we can use the latebay as comparison car and those had up to 2 litre engines which make the porsche six possible where as a beetle had has at highest the 1600cc. (=1585cc would be the correct CC..) Which makes the maximum engine size 1981cc and the porsche six is 1991cc...
So basically if I use the enginecase I have in stock that is allready machined for 94mm cylinders I could use that legally with original stroke. It would be only 1915cc. Anyhow, nobody know for sure if the engine is a 1600 or 2276 from the outside.. Just tell them "that the engine feels very powerfull as it is newrenovated and the car it is sitting in is so much lighter than stock beetle weight..."

I love the bent window 356 coupes. Terry Brewer here in the USA is almost finished with his molds of a bent window coupe and I plan on being one of the first in line to purchase one, Cant wait to see what direction you take yours in.

Ahhhhh, compared to a late bus, that makes sense.

One question though...

Is it done yet?

So now I am in trouble with my 16 year old daughter. Thanks alot! When I asked her what kind of car shd wanted, she said a 356 coupe. I will agree with her, it is one sexy car!

Since you don't need the flat six anymore, you can ship it to me! I will put it to good use!

I was sad to see the doublecab go... that is the one VW that I really really really want!!

Still, definitely want to see your progress on this one. (So does my daughter)

Nice project

I'd love to get myself a fiberglass 356 Speedster body/unfinished kit

IF I ever do get one, when it's finished & ready to drive, I'll hafta flip a coin to see which car I'm a gonna drive each day

Nice project. Great lines in those bodies. That roll cage will make for a nice stiff chassis. Plus a little protection vs only fiberglass against the cell phone talking, lack of attention drivers.

A large bore, increased stroke VW engine will be a lot of fun in that.
