Nice

As always, you are continually making progress on different projects - and this one is no different.

Thanks for the information earlier - and I am still hiding this thread from my daughter. I love the 356 coupe much more than the convertible.

I had thought of a similar "X" in the door for Vivian, so it is nice to see how you linked it in.

So, is what it's about...
As this 356 is not an off the shelf Bolt-on and kit there is a lot of details that needs to be done.

The PO had started making the firewalls etc. to seal the cabin from enginebay and front "luggagecompartment" with alu-sheets popriveted to body etc.

I didn't really like the looks and felt that it will start rattle and twirk faster than I can say Outlaw.... So, I decided to bring home a -69 standard and a 1302 superbeetle to use as donors for seveal bodypanels that will be permanently mounted below the rollcage. Then make a frame to bolt the body to these panels just so I can lift the body off again if needed without cutting anything.

May the begin!
This is what I dragged home..

Here the part I'm after at the moment. I also cut off the quarterpanels from the section. You will later see how my brain had figured this all out somehow...

The 4 yr old also wanted to "drive it" today...

Verry nice art work plus the most radical chop I've ever seen. Are you bolting or welding the top to the pan?

Here's the first part from the -69 roughly precut and testfitted into the back of the body.. Will go about 4 more inches backwards when I've done the final cuts and slices in it. Will bolt into the 4 original holes on the triangular floorpansupports..

In my mind this will give the whole apearance of the interiour a more authentic look too. The aluminium sheet above the cage that goes up to rearwindo will also disappear soon... ;)

Today I was out to the garage to patch the Polo dailydriver's exhaust prior to the annual inspections and I "suddenly sneaked away to the neighbours garage" to borrow his sheetmetal bender...

Now the first fresh sheets have been started with. Next is to cut two pieces of the 2 by 2 inch squaretubes to weld to the sheets. Then cut out the inner fiberglass doorsills and replace them with these in steel.

Some progress again.

Recieved the new Rancho Bus nosecone for the gearbox which allows me to rise the transmission about 1-2 inches without clearanceproblems with the gearshift axle in the tunnel.
(the one to the left.)

Also started modifying the rear transmissionmount for rising the rear end 2 inches...

The reason for the transmission and engine lift is shown here.

It appears that many of the replica kit bodies have been reworked with a lower rear apron than original just to hide the engine when using beetle chassis... As my coupe body was molded from an original body the rear apron is atleast 2 inches higher than the doorsills, not at same height as on replicas...

Also finally recieved the nice used steeringwheel for it the past week. Still missing a hub and mount, just a splitbus hornbutton here with a crest for 550 porsches... ;)

So, off course I had to start designing the hub for the wheel. Who uses off the shelf expensive Speedwell copies when you can make your own custom-made one off for much cheaper...

Today I was clearing out some stuff and crap out of the garage and found a box I had totally forgotten.. I bought these Cibie extralights way back in 2006 when I was testing out different lights for the KidVrod... These will be so perfect on this one!!!

From drawing to final parts.

I bought a center with splines for the new steeringwheel. The center is originally meant for Grant wheels but works also for this.

To make it work with the custom Splitbus hornbutton I have to make custommade hub for the wheel. I have a friend working at the local vocational school on the department of metalworking. He gave one student my measurement as a practice piece to work out angles etc. on a metal lathe...

First part is done. Second is going to be done during the coming week.

Well. As this will be a missfit in both the vw scene as the 356 scene it is not just going to be an outlaw but more like an Outcast... So I had to make a one off badge for it...

Steeringwheel parts almost done..

For some reason I had to buy this the past week...

It is in this state at the moment as the previous owner started to disassemble it last year..

My plans is to just assembe it as it stands an repair the minor rustissues before inspections an registering again.

The 356 still as main project though..

Been playing around with different ideas..

Here I tested a steelwheel from a Mercedes with dimensions 6,5x15 ET49 and it sat perfectly in the body.

Also tried beetle 66 only 4x15 wheels and it also looks good. Way too narrow though....

Originalstyle 356 widefives dont fit inside the bodyline due to wider track with irs and mcpherson suspension so I have to work out other solutions....

66 wheelcenter combined with mercedes wheelarches looks to be one option... I would prefer 356 centers but I'm not really prepared to buy 4 new wheels just to cut them up.....

I also finally got the body lifted and levelled horizontally so I can start fitting the body permanantly to the pan.

I also recieved a nice delivery from Sierra Madre Collection in Pasadena a few weeks ago containing 4 of these correct style Beehive taillights, one Outlaw script and a golden "S". The Porsche script came with the car and is an old original script.
I was thinking of putting the S in the center under the Porsche script in the rear and the Outlaw script on the dash inside the car.. (to avoid it beeing stolen at events...)
