Red face VWince - moving ahead now...
Re:: Need motivation

Hi all,

Ive been a member for some time now but spend far more time here looking than actually doing any work on the volksrod. Time and money are big hold ups and theres more motivation seeing your projects than doing my own. I decided to take some advice from a member (forget who) to get the wheels and tyres to kick off the motivation. Holidays in a few months so I hope I can hit it hard then.

I dont know how you guys get so much done so quick, maybe I just live in the wrong country (Australia) and everything is harder to find and cost twice as much. Here's a few pics anyway.

BTW - I noticed my 'site supporter" membership must have expired as i suddenly dont have the icon and the image in my signature.

Get things "done so quick" ?? Hmm. I bought my Single Cab in January of '72. Hope to have it all one, or perhaps two colors, by Spring, oh and the wiring harness I bought four short years back finally installed... Yup, we're quick out here. I like your roadster and where you're going with the wheels and 'walls.

Warm here today - 33deg celsius or 91.4 Farenheight.

Stripped the IRS and started to build a jig for the pivit boxes. Dropped off the rims and beam extender to the powder coaters.

The way I see it, you're moving right along. Pay no attention to the pro builders who occasionally go trolling through the slums of the hot rodding world to grace our pages with a quick, high budget build. This place was founded by guys who had to make decisions to buy food or parts, not what color leather interior would complement their $20,000 paint job.

Keep plugging away and don't let the bastards get ya down.

Reason why I like this place. I've met a few of those "hotrodders" who vied their cars as investments. and didn't turn a single damn wrench on it. Also met a few VW people like that I want to make a volks rod to piss off both. Keep up the work. WIsh I had the weather you had.

Back when I was a kid, we referred to guys buying turn key hot rods as, "Bought Rodders." We still have 'em around here, but they keep the local shops busy, and since I moonlight at one, I can't really complain.
I have to say that it's a lot more fun talking to some guy who is actually building his ride.

I know it's probably wrong, but I could give a fuck less.....

I just don't give two shits for pretty much anything built (bought) for the sake of flaunting the size of one's checkbook, and further stroking an already over inflated ego.

Seriously! I hate that shit more than the fucking Pinstriped Pansies of New York. Guys like that don't get it because they can't. There's no pride to be had from opening up your wallet and letting the moths out. Just ask anyone who's been through a nasty divorce. Then ask someone who's had to work their fingers to the bone to put Top Ramon on the table, it don't matter about the money.

So dude, don't fucking worry about the cake eaters of the world. Build YOUR shit, YOUR way, and at YOUR pace. Someone else has a problem with it, fuck'em in the neck with a fish head.

I like the way you guys spell Tires. It always makes me think of the old Budgie song "In the Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand"

Anyways....like the tyres! Keep the pics coming

BTW:....click the link above to hear the song

How on earth did they get the carby and manifilds bolted in? I had to cut an access hole to get to the bolts. cant pull the motor until they are off. Surely it hasent been like this since the wizard conversion.

It may have been Vince. I refuse to cut access holes in my '63 - and it is a VERY tight fit. I definitely have to borrow patience when working on the carbs in that one. I have a 2332cc wedged in with dual 44s.

I have become pretty good with a crow foot and wobbly extensions and still have to practically go into muscle fatigue from contorting my arms and fingers to get in there.
