This is absolutely fantastic! Your build looks even better than the rendering, if you ask me.

I'm especially enjoying your fiberglass fabrication process. I'm hoping to make some fiberglass parts for my rod at a later date, and after all the reading I've done on the subject, seeing your pictures really helps. Do you buy the liquid foam from Amazon or a local supplier?

Thanks Dung, you can build anything you can imagine from fiberglass, it really is easy and fun. The reason I will be making some of the parts for my truck from "glass is in case something gets wrecked I will be able to replicate the part very easily instead of hammering out more metal. I got my foam from ...........

They can ship to you, ask for Pat for tech. assistance, he is very helpful and glad to help.

This is cool and I am sure i'll see it Bug Jam.

Are you Building the hood lines outa Bondo ?
Had you condered building it up in Glass instead.
One option would be to build up the inside of the lip in clay first. Like roll out a 1/4" sheet of clay cut it into strips and follow the lines around on the inside. The glass sup to it in staggered strips of mat so you get a tapering effect. Every layer of 1.5 oz. mat will equal about 1/16".
You could also just cut the recess into the foam then glass it .

Yeah many ways to do it but this is a plug to make a mold from so quick & easy, down & dirty.
I'm creating an edge of about 1/4" from red bondo then filling the rest with blue to keep my established red edge as I sand it.

I have done similar by extruding some epoxy putty and then blend it and ramp to it.

The ear detail on this Frog was done that way.

No I am not in the pics, those are people who just played around with it on photo day.

I had thought about creating the raised edge first then dropping the center panel but decided I didn't want to be blocking "Within" the edges of the body lines. the way I did it I was able to get the flats flat.
Where you located Jon ?

Thanks for the referral Skidmark! I'll get in touch with FGCI directly then. I wonder if they have a store up this way...

I've been apprenticing at metal fabrication shops for about four years and I've realized I'm just no good at it. I can cut and weld and make things fit together well, but when it comes to creating something new, forget it. I did have good luck with my first venture into fiberglass at my last job though, so I think it's time to delve more deeply into it. And you're definitely inspiring me here.

Show off!!!

I'm sure it's just the pics but the center swage lines look to be asymmetrical near the cowl.

Hi Charlie, the lines on this thing made me crazy ( er ) .
They are the same as per template and measurements and by eye when viewed dead center. If you lean one side or the other they look off. finally after measuring and making templates and so on I just had to go for it so believe me, they are as symmetrical as humanly possible. and if somebody wants one better they can build it them Damn selves !
