Default ev rod?
Re:: why not

So I'm back...an old member here.

Life has changed and Im a vegan ,tree hugging, surfer on the north shore. Happy as can be.

I have been looking into doing an electric vehicle as it doesnt polute, has the range I need for getting around the island and is much cheaper especially with having solar. Anyone thought of doing this with a v-rod? There is some good stuff available like zelectric, etc. on the web for converting an old bug to electric for relatively cheap if you know what you are doing. My plan is a fenderless hebmuler conversion. Back seat for the keiki's (kids) and to hang some surf boards out the back. 4" torsion raise, 2" tranny raise, and a 5" section. Easy enough right?

another benifit is added decklid clearance so everything looks like it belonged that way. No ugly cuts in the decklid for fan shroud, carbs etc.

Probably some artificial Bacon flavored substitute, made from beans and seaweed.

P.S. I'm cool with the tree hugging thing though. I'd be in favor of ripping out every sporting arena and golf course and do something productive with the area.

Bacon and cheese are the hardest...that's for sure. Don't do the artificial bacon or anything...there is plenty of natural stuff to make that isn't processed to death. I make a bean burger that will knock the socks off any burger you can buy anyways. The key is figuring out how to make stuff taste good. eating plain ass veggies will make you surely fail at it unless you can get creative in the kitchen and garden.

On to the ev rod discusion.
I have seen you can get the kit for about 2500 sans batteries and there are plenty of options there. Have to do more research on the batteries but most people on the island here go with 4 boat/rv deep cycle batteries from costco and it works fine for toting around Oahu.

Me too. I'm Sioux Lakota Indian and there is is a saying that Vegetarian is an old indian word for "bad hunter" hehehe.

I am working to make parks out here free food parks by planting fruit trees in them. Food can be really expensive out here and its sad because it grows so easily. We have 4 growing seasons a year instead of one like on the mainland. They are doing some similar stuff in Seattle

A person like me is welcome anywhere on the island. A haole that is driving a bmw with a popped collar and being smug is not welcome in certain areas. You have to respect the culture and people wherever you go in the world. Those that don't get dealt with accordingly. I have never had a single issue here and I know other white folk who have. People here also dont believe in guns either so the worst your ever gonna get is an ass whooping. Alot different from the mainland. Everyone is welcome here. Pompous attitudes are not. Wainaie
is the west side and has the most Poly people but they are slowly getting pushed out of there too. You have to understand where the resentment comes from. I love it here and wopuld never change a thing. Except for the traffic.

All I'd want to do is "soak it all in", sand, sun, snorkel, food, culture, scenery. Gotta lower that blood pressure!

You would be fine Jeff. It is still one of the best places in the world for vacation. Like Joey, I was always well treated but I was first properly introduced and made a point of keeping my mouth shut and ears open. You don't have to drive a Beemer to have an attitude and/or be a dick. They come from all financial strata.

Well if you're willing to poke your nose in here again maybe I will too. At least enough to say hi to another old member. Been through a bunch of changes in my life too. Never lost interest in Volksrods but I think I wore this site out and when I left I just felt like taking my photos with me. They still float around in cyberspace though and some can be found with a Google search.

I still have the electric motor and controller and chargers I was going to use.

Voltsrat became Ratgutz II or something when I put a 1600 up front. Still have it but someone recently asked about buying it so might let it go. Another VW is on the way so I'll be cutting that one up eventually.

Anyway, it was good to see a familiar name. Good to hear you are doing well.

In 1961 an engineer from Lockheed commuted from the next block over to work (about eight to 10 miles) driving an electric Fiat he'd built. I rode over to his house one Saturday and he showed me the setup. He was running an aircraft landing gear motor (adapted to the transaxle with a thick aluminum plate) powered by several car batteries. Most of what he told me was way over my twelve year old head, but it was pretty cool. He told me that when he slowed down w/o the brakes it helped recharge the batteries...regenerative breaking. The car was pretty cool and compared to all the neighbor's Detroit iron, tiny. He took me and a couple other kids for a ride and the car just sort of whirred along. I have no idea of the range....he also had a very cute daughter about my age.

I'm sending you a PM. Good to hear from you.

The guy who says he's interested in my Volksrod reverse trike hasn't responded so I think I'll put it in classifieds for a couple weeks and if it doesn't sell, part it out. I can use the motor and front suspension in the next project anyway.
