Default two tie rod holes in spindle?
Re:: shortening tie rods, odd spindle?

i picked up this car with the beam already narrowed and set up for air ride. however there is a major toe in/out problem with the ride height changes.
the tie rods have been cut/welded.

beam is narrowed 4 1/2"
long tie rod is shortened 1.5"
short tie rod is shortened 2.5"

i've no experience with narrowed beams, but search button says that putting those both around 2.25 *should* solve the problem. but that still doesn't explain these spindles i have with two tie rod holes? any thoughts? i haven't seen spindles with multiple positions before, so i'm curious about them, and wondering if they play any role in the problem.

I've never seen spindals with two tie rod holes and don't know how that will effect it, but each of your tie rods should of been shorted 2.25". Because the long tie rod was not shortened enough, the tie rod ends might be bottoming out and not giving you the adjustment you need.

From what I understand that is a common problem. One thing you can try is flip the tie rods. I should definitely help with bump steer.

I have never seen the 2 hole spindle thing. Thats weird.
I would get some different spindles and shorten a set of tie rods to both 2.25". Those look like drop spindles, but a different position would change the steering geometry.

I would do some measuring though first. to make sure you beam was narrowed evenly and not more on one side then the other.
I have heard of beams being done unequally to counter act some aftermarket fender weirdness.

Also if your gonna flip the tie rods theres another option besides the tie rod flip kit. You can get a tapered reamer that has the same taper as the tie rods and simply ream the other side of the tie rod half way. This way it can easily be flipped back and not use a bushing that can wear out and loosen up. Plus once you buy the reamer you can use it to do more spindles.

They look like Airkewld spindles.

I think the different holes will quicken or slow your steering.

Like others have said, your tierods should be cut the same amount. If your short tierod was cot 2.5" it must be very short. Shorter equals jacked up bump steer. You need to determine if the steering box got moved out to stockish location when the beam got narrowed and determine what else needs to be "fixed".

Shorten both.
