Nice to see another take on a V8 VW. Checked out your blog, the electric bus is very cool. What sort of range does she have?

Thanks. Range is at least 35 miles, about twice what I need on a daily basis.

The v8 is fun but I too am loving the electric stuff.

We will have to chat sometime about the Toyota van. I am (when I have a garage again) building a solar charged buggy.

Curious if you are going to have an X-member or anything tying the two sides together? That seems like it will have almost no torsional stiffness between the two sides of the frame. Each side is plenty stiff, but they are not linked to prevent twisting, best that I can see?

Yes, other than the existing far front and rear connections there is a substantial drive shaft hoop and much larger transmission crossmember which i have yet to weld in. There is also a full cage which is made but not yet welded in. The cage also has several connections to the body and the body has some other stiffening already added in as well.

The V8 Bug body had to go back to the sandblaster as they missed some key areas. Six weeks later, still sitting there. On the bright side, In the meantime, I have pieced everything together to replace the automatic with a 5 speed!

Looking good! I have always been curious to see how much foot room you have once the trans tunnel is in. I mean a standard Bug doesn't have a ton of room how it is but add in a V8 with a trans tunnel... Any pictures of the pedal setup or foot room? I would like to do a front engine setup in my next Bug but with a 4 cylinder.

There is a good bit of legroom. I installed a bench seat. It sits just a few inches back from the original location. I will takes some photos when I get it back together.

I love it

I'll say it again, except this time I'm gonna follow thru since I almost have my workshop cleaned up, this summer I'm getting back to work on my V8 Bug aka "The BitchN Bug"
It bothers me to walk past her every time I walk back to my workshop & not being able to get it inside

Fought with the clutch slave cylinder today, but finally got it in. The cylinder is off a jeep cj5. It fit nicely next to the oil filter on the chevy V8 but the filter must be removed to get the bolts in. Bolted it up only to find that the filter was making contact with the bolt heads and would not screw on. Solved the problem with these button head bolts.

Prior to installing the hydraulic line to the clutch, I sleeved it with some heat shield.

I am re-purposed the back bone from the original vw pan. The section was originally fully enclosed but I have cut out the bottom panel and am using it as a driveshaft tunnel.

Had to re-work the headers to fit the new engine position.
