I was wondering about where the engine was going, (sorta mid-engine, right?) what with that short wheelbase until I checked out 'BenModified.' I love the dropped front axle waay out front! Is the radiator 'gonna out front too?

Thanks. I haven't commited to a location on the radiator yet. it can go under the bed for sure, but something up front may work also.

How 'bout up front with a cut-down Splitty nose piece to frame it?

Todays Progress:

The crate motor came with a serpentine belt system and all of the common accessories. Removing the power steering pump will disrupt the layout, so I was going to make an idler pulley to replace the pump. Decided instead to remove the blades from the impeller and keep the pump. It was quick, easy and free. Now that there is no pressure, I connected the two hoses together and filled it with fluid to keep the impeller bushing lubricated.

Also laid out the truck with the dimensions that I have in mind

The truck will be set up with an engine cradle which with will allow the engine, trans and rearend to move as a single unit, similar to my V8 Daihatsu (photos) which will allow me to keep the wheelbase reasonable.

The Powerglide Shorty trans is intended for a hard tail rear axle as it can only accommodate 2" of yoke, so the engine cradle will work well. Here is the driveshaft/coupler with shortened yoke. The yoke will only move in response to engine/trans mount flex.

Very trick project. Are you going to fill in the wheel wells under the cab doors? Although they sort of make the cab.

The floor and the bottoms of the doors and the dog legs are mostly rusted away and will be cut out. A new custom raised floor will be installed to fit the new frame rails, so a good bit of the wheel wells are going away anyway and the rest filled in. Crappy altered photo below.
