Sorry for no update in a while. I have been quite busy. Here are a few more pictures to make another attempt to get all caught up.

Livorsi Gauges. Can Bus style

What a pain it was to make these fit. Still needs some more fine trimming.

Mock up engine is out.

Nice and clean. Ready to be built. This is a Chevy Ecotec 2.2 liter.

Final hone is done and ready to drop some pistons in!

Eagle H-beam rods

JE pistons set up for 9:1

Pistons are in

Crank is in

Switching over to neutral balance shafts

Short block is done. Waiting for the head to come back from CNC porting at the moment.

And having a little fun over the weekend in something like a Bug. We got 3rd!

The Bug has landed at the new house! Now I have twice as much room to work on it. Things should get moving pretty fast from here.

Loaded and ready to go.

Made it safely to its new home.

Well it looks like it is finally time to start working on the Bug again. I am all settled in and all the house problems are solved! I popped the front fenders off a couple days ago to inspire me to keep going and get it all torn down. It actually doesn't look too bad without them! Let the fun begin again!

This weather has really sucked lately. It got up to 108 the other day (pretty sure it was even hotter in the garage). No fun when working on the Bug. But I got some stuff done finally. This 3 day weekend should help out with more progress.

As of right now, the car is 80% torn down. I am going to finish the inside of the car before taking the front of the car apart. Right now I am working on getting the roll cage in. Hoping to have it done by Monday.

Creative Car Craft deck lid arrived.

Ripped the head liner out

No more rear suspension

No more engine

No more floor

Added another support bar to the EMPI cage. Also doubles as a steering column mount.

Need to cut down the steering shaft for sure.

Haven't MIGed for a few months but still looks decent.

Cage came back out and added a head liner.

Hey guys. Its been about a year since the last post. I hope you dont think this project has come to a stop. Cause it hasn't! Much progress has been made and I have actually put about 200 miles on it.

So for a quick little update, i got it fired up on Dec 31 @ 1130 pm. My goal was to fire it up before the end of the year and it barely happened. After that, it took about 5 months to get it in driving shape. The main part of the body is now smooth and painted. Lots more body work and paint to go. Still need to make some carbon door panels as well. First auto-x event is in 2 weeks. I have been busy trying to finish tuning and adjusting the suspension.

Now to the fun. The engine. I built it expecting somewhere around 425-450 hp @ 15 psi boost. Well it only makes 10 psi and feels like 400 hp. No traction issues at all. I do have to say it runs real good. Pretty much faster then i thought. 8000 rpm redline makes it even more fun.

Enjoy some videos!

Fantastic!! Thanks for coming back with an update, so many projects either die or the builder never updates the build!

I'm quite partial to the GREEN and the Ecotec. We run Ecos in our Class 10 cars, they're so nice!

Thanks guys. And sorry for the lack of updates. I have been pretty busy but busy is good. This project will not die off considering i am almost done. After its done, all you will see is videos of it tearing up the track. Its just nice to know i can hop in the bug at any time and take it for a joy ride. Its been 4 years to get it to that point. What a great feeling

And glad to see a class 10 guy on here! My shop builds LS engines and ecotecs for the off road guys. Shoot i have even been copilot of a class 5u car. Fun stuff.

Hey guys. Long time no update for me. Lots has been going on. So where to start? Lets start with some pictures.

So as you can see, I have been out racing the Bug. It has been a blast. I even won some awards! The thing is a monster on the track. It was about 1 seconds slower then the fastest car of the day at multiple events. Had some problems, fixed them. Got more problems, fixed them. Thats how racing goes. Here are some videos. Not sure how to embed them so hopefully they work.

During my last event, I ran in to some engine issues. So as of right now, the Bug is sitting without an engine. I am in the middle of building a new one. Bigger and better of course. Other then that, I have been side tracked with yet another project....a Jeep. Once I finish the Jeep, I will get back to finishing up the Bug. Another month or two and the Bug will be back on the road.

Thanks Jeff! Couldn't be happier with the outcome, well besides the engine problem... My next update, in a couple months like normal, should include a fully painted Bug with the new destroked Ecotec destroying more cones!

You gonna take on some of the muscle cars in the Optima Street Car Challenge when it's all done?

Rob - That is the plan! I am going to try my best to make it to the one at the Autoclub Speedway and hopefully score good enough to get invited to Vegas. The Bug has the potential to win it, its driver, not so much. I need a lot more seat time to compete with those guys. I currently compete in the Ultimate class which is more of an open run what you brought type of deal. In order for me to run with the muscle cars, I have to switch tires. No big deal though.

That is a Beautiful car & deserves 4

For not having "Fancy" tools it definetly turned into a Fancy car, even without paint, nicely done

I can't wait to see it in paint, all I can think is WOW !!!

Looks like it handles great and flat ! More power and better tires should make it a giant killer. Excellent work !

Thanks guys! Tons of hard work has gone in to this thing and all of it finally paid off after I got to race it the first time. I still have to finish fine tuning the suspension cause it has a lot more understeer then I like. Other then that, it handles great. Just hoping the new extra power doesnt cause traction issues. With the old engine, you could launch it at 3K and it would spin the tires for about 1ft and then just take off. We will see!

I just realized how much skipping around I have done on my post. You guys have missed a lot of important things that have gone on. So here is a random spread of pictures in somewhat of the right order. Photo bomb begin!

So we take this....

And try to put it in through here...

And it goes something like this....

Dropped it down and let it sit on the frame. Then readjust and go through the rear side window to move in to final position.

I love it! Have you considered fitting a fake rear seat to hide the engine, then, say, a old electric motor in the old engine compartment with a bunch of D batteries set up to look like the actual drive train?
