setting up solid rocker shafts
Re:: should the gap be this giant?
trying to re-set up my rocker shafts and noticed the gap is massive.. should it be this big or is there a different problem?

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
I never seen one with a gap like that on the center spacer. I would shim the heck out of it. Then you'll be good.

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
yea, each rocker should have like .005-.010" end play i think. you can confirm with the rocker manufacturer. its been years since i set up some scat ones, but they had different shim thicknesses available to get everything right...

all in all, it looks like it needs about a quarter inch of shims to take out all the endplay from all four rockers, that seems like a shit ton to me..

That's what I might wind up doing, just wasn't sure if there was a limit on how many shims is too much..

I don't understand what you mean, the mounting blocks are the same dimensions on either side and I thought you always want the gap pointed up?

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
Get someone to machine a new center spacer for you. Did you buy these new? If so contact manufacturer with quality complaint.

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
I keep thinking that we shimmed the rocker arm spacing with thin bronze shims to adjust for the variations in the castings. A caliper would be really handy here, because you still need some clearance.

I was thinking about replacing em, since they are 10+ years old now.. but then that creates a new dilemma.. do I replace them with new 1.1:1 or do I take this opportunity to bump them up at all?
Would there be any advantage of using 1.25:1 with an Engle 110 cam in this 1776?

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
With that set up you should be able to run stock with out any problems.

I've been running stock since 2002, I'm just wondering if I would get any benefit out of bumping it up..

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
If you were to be running the motor hard or were to do it just for the "cool factor" it would probably be a benefit to go to the solid shafts, other wise not worth it.
Remember, once the valve covers are on nobody will know the difference.

i already HAVE solid shafts, I'm asking if I would benefit from changing from 1.1:1 to 1.25:1 with an Engle 110 cam..

Re: setting up solid rocker shafts
Been running 1.25:1 on 110 cam and single hi-rev springs on the Kid's 1776 for years - until one of the valve springs broke from the extra strain. We got lucky and ony damage was the broken spring. Had the heads cut for and dual springs installed. So - I'll only go to ratio rockers after doing dual springs in the future... The kid's car really wakes up at 3500 RPM with the 1.25... I think it's worth it!
